Coastal Highway question

Inka,
Thanks I am always looking for recomendations. Lots of nice stuff.

Lady Jeeper,
Last time we went down we came across at Algodones it was great. On the way home San Luis was backed up so we tried Algodones and the backup was 2 miles. We drove to Mexicalli and still had 1 hour wait. I like Lukeville.

5litarag,
It's actually two condos 2200sq ft each with a full palapa on top. What's really cool is that I bought a trailer load of Egyptian artifacts from the Luxour in Las Vegas for one of the palaps. I have six 8 foot tall warriors to hold it up and a whole lot of other artifacts. They were fun to get across the border.

OMG - that must have been hilarious trying to explain that! It reminds me of some of the scenes in the old Charlton Heston movie, "The Ten Commandments"! LOL!

It took me eight hours. I had receipts for $1500 but I paid $3500. When I went to the importer they were sure they were Egyptian Antiquities. He looked up on his computer and came up with a value of $3500. I don't know were you look up values for fake Egyptian antiquities. The guy was good. He did miss all the steel decking material that I had on the floor of the trailer though. It should be cool to have a few drinks and end up in Egypt.

I drove from San Luis to Rocky Point last Nov. right out of town there was a little construction, if wind is blowing the sand piles up like snow drifts. I think it saved us 2 hrs verses driving from Yuma to Lukeville. So 3 hours compaired to 5 to 5 1/2 hours. We have used 2 more times. there is a Fed stop station once it was about 45 minute wait the other times was only 10 to 15 minute. The road is good. It is barren, very little traffic and toll is $7.00 ea way. We will use again..

Wow Rick.............that is going to look sooooooo awesome. Are we going to have to bow to you or anything like that now????;-) LOL!!!!! Really, looks like a fantastic plan......good luck:smile: How's the foot, btw??

Beachgirl.
No bowing put a party for this crew will be inorder. Maybe a Toga party! The leg is good as new.

Thanks,

Rick

Sorry Rick, I meant to say leg (I must have been thinking about Chuck, he hurt his foot a couple of weeks ago)...........glad to hear it's better. What a sight that would be............a bunch of yahoo's running around in white sheets and doing the worm on the dance floor!!!

5litraag,

WOW we are neighbors. I live in Chino. Do you have a place in Rocky Point? If so where? The federal check point is open 24 hrs and they are searching all vechicles heading north. I have seen it backed up what seems like a mile. With all the semi's passsing through the same rout it's a crap shoot. I normally head out around six in the morning.

Ok Rick.. headed out in the morning. But I realized I never asked you what you route was from Hwy 8 just as you get ready to head south to San Luis Colorado.
What exit do you take and which road is the hwy that takes you to the crossing? thanks again neighbor.

one more tip for those coming down or going up on the coastal highway, about 12 miles from where the highway starts, in the Penasco side, there is a big palapa it is a restaurant called "El Solito" (the loaner) their beer is ice cold and thier food is really good, for those who like whole fish fried they will make it for you too, its a couple running the place and they are always happy to see you!! so you know now that if you are ghungry and can not wait to PP that is the place!! I believe it is right by ejeido Lopez Aceves

You are so right. El Solito does have good food.... we had the whole fried fish; plan on sharing one fish. It was a monster. And yes, it is at Lopez Aceves.

What type of fish? Is it on the water? And is it 12 miles from Penasco?
They use different ones depending on the catch of the day, the restaurant is located in the west side of the road, next to the road, very visible, and yes 12 miles from Penasco.
