Best Route to Hermosillo from PP in 2019?

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum and will be driving to southern Sonora (Navojoa area). What is the best route from PP to Hermosillo? I saw an older post that said the PP to Caborca route is not so great. Anyone on here driven it recently? We will be driving with children, etc.

The only route that makes sense is Puerto Peñasco to Caborca to Santa Anna then south on 15. There is a coastal road which is great until you get just south of Puerto Libertad then the road falls apart on you and is pot hole city through agricultural fields....I like going that way but wouldn't recommend it to newbies.

A couple of months ago, we took the road from Penasco to Caborca to Santa Anna, then up to Nogales, and it was fine. The road south from Santa Anna to Hermosillo is always good.
