Someone did post Santander closed their account for inactivity and they are closing extrangeros accounts if they call your contact number in Mexico and don’t answer.
You need a passport to open a new account and retrieve your money. Takes 4/5days to file and have funds returned.

Last time we had a Mxcn bank account in USD, it earned interest that was credited to the account on the last day of each month. The same day as the credit was posted, the Fed IRS taxed and debited the interest. We decided doing business with a bank that's so completely in bed with the Feds was not comfortable so we transferred the funds out. The Mxcn bank debited USD 75.00 for the transfer!
