Are there Redfish in Rocky Point?

Cholla Bay 4 Life
A month or so ago when I was fishing in Cholla Bay when I caught what I thought was a corvina. It looked very similar except it had those protruding lips and mouth. Very similar dorsal fins, just like the shortfin corvina. We had caught a bunch of these down in Santo Tomas too and someone had referred to them as dulce something or other. I forgot to ask the question before but I just came across some kayak videos of Redfish fishing in the Gulf of Mexico and these Red drums "redfish" look exactly like what Im trying to describe. So my question is, are there Red drum in Rocky Point waters/sea of cortez and secondly, are they good eating?

No true Redfish anywhere in the Pacific.

There are a few species that I think look a little bit like a redfish. One is the striped corvina:

another is the Yellowfin croaker:

and the cortez croaker:

There are also two other species of croaker/drum that are common catches from shore in RP... one is the California Corbina:

and the other is the spotfin croaker:

All of them are delicious.

Hah.... is that a polite way of calling me a know it all? :) Probably guilty as charged. I read ridiculous amounts - probably 50 pages per night.

I do enjoy talking about fish a lot more than being opinionated in the political topics (if you can believe that :))

Those mexfish.com fish identification pages are a fantastic resource... Gene Kira did a great job on that website.

We also catch some good sized yellow finned Croaker in that little estuary Joe, but I'm not sure if we did when you were there.

Gene Kira has semi-retired. Plus, he has to have reports to publish reports. Nobody has been fishing/submitting to him. I used to all the time, but my computer time is limited lately. Ya just don't know how much work it takes.
