I remember being told by officials that the passport chip was not compatible with the scanners and that is why we have to physically hand over the passports. The card chips apparently do work.

I would just like to point out that the forum does have people who live and do business in Penasco, who when posting any positive information are often roundly attacked as boosters and false promoters by non residents, to the point of frustration, probably wondering why they even bother...

I have been buying there for years with generally the same count each time. Ocassionally I insist on hand picking the shrimp and it always turns out well.

I was never associated with Club Med other than visiting once and awhile but I always thought that their motto of being a 'cure for civilization' was masterful and appealing to stressed out Americans and others.

It brings back memories of our white knuckle round trip drive to Cabo back in the day. Every time we passed an oncoming semi truck, it was so close that it sucked my 4Runner side mirror flat against the door window. You name the conditions and we encountered them, horizontal rain storms...

Great report! We drove from San Carlos to Penasco in this past July by way of Santa Anna/Caborca although we dearly wanted to use the partially completed Costero, but we're talked out of it by virtually everyone we talked to. I am looking forward to driving it soon.

Clumsily perhaps, but they might finally be sending a very strong signal to the cartels that it won't be business as usual for them if they chose to stay in Penasco.
