    Weather currently?

Give me AC, or give me DEATH! Seriously, after a day out on the water, sweltering, ain't no way I could sleep without a room I couldn't safely hang meat in to cure! If I had to, I'd just sleep in the truck with the AC on and let it idle all night all long! Yeah, I used to beach camp in Baja...

    Name That Fish

Yeah, I didn't realize there were boojum trees on the mainland side at all -- always thought these were strictly in Baja. I'd love to do a trip like theirs.

    Name That Fish

It's a puffer, a Bullseye Puffer, to be more specific. The locals used to sell these in the fish market as "chickenfish" because the only edible part is the rear of the fish and it looks like a drumstick when cleaned. They can be highly toxic if not cleaned and prepared properly. "Fugu" in Homer...

    Border wait Sunday July 20th

That just seems ridiculous for this time of year! 2 hours? I'm heading down this weekend. Hopefully, no big waits on the 27th.

    Electronics

Bill - I prefer separate GPS and sonar units for a couple reasons: If a combo unit goes out, your screwed for both functions. If my main GPS goes out, I've still got my handheld GPS. Sonar is critical to setting up on reefs. Unfortunately, if that goes out, I have no back up and will have to...

    ebay item

It's GOTTA hurt cranking on a big grouper with that wooden pole up your butt!! I guess they hadn't invented stand-up fishing in 1952.   Interesting find, though. I have a very old AZ Hiways book. All the photography in it looks like watercolor postcards. Bought it in an...

    Sand Crabs?

Seconding and thirding - they are very common on the California coast and you can catch them most anywhere if you watch for the signs. Corbina (not corvina) cruise the surf line looking for these little sand crabs (or sand fleas, as we call them). Have never seen one in Rocky Point. I think...

    Boat registration

Depends on what you're trying to do with the photocopy. You are well-advised to always have the original with you. When I applied for my TIP (Temporary Import Permit), they would *not* accept a color photocopy of my trailer title. They insisted on the original. I finally talked to the Aduana...

    Electronics

That's a limited budget, but it can be done if you're willing to compromise a bit. Just don't expect the best. At minimum, you need: 1) Fixed mount VHF radio - ICOM makes a decent radio at a good price. I prefer and have Standard Horizon. You can get something good brand new for about $200...

    La Pinta

If I'm not mistaken, the photos are from Google Earth, a free program that's you look at most any point on Earth. I use it often to check out different places. You can zoom in fairly close, but start to lose resolution if you zoom in too close. Check it out, it's great! I was looking at San...

    Safe Marina

Yeah, it's expensive for sure. Typically, I've been handing over $45 each time I launch/recover at Safe Marine these days. $5 to wash your boat and flush your motors, $5 to store your trailer, $5 to park your truck inside. They nickel/dime you to death. I *might* try the public harbor again, but...

    Diesel

It all comes down to revenue (or current lack thereof), as I said in a previous post. The state is hurting right now and will do everything in its power to get money out of your wallet and into its coffers. ADOT has never done this before and doing it now is absolutely ridiculous. Can I fan...

    La Pinta

3b is where I generally fish. In the old days of "Nacho Beach", you used to be able to get Nacho to take you across the channel in his panga and fish the point (currently Mayan property) where the main channel comes in. He'd just motor close to the drop-off and we'd throw Kastmasters towards the...

    Wish me luck.

Best of luck, Kenny! I went through a scare close to that a few years ago. Turned out I had a bad infection and there was some scar material the size of a dime on my lung from having Valley Fever at some point, actually fairly common for us outdoors Southwestern types. They monitored it for a...

    La Pinta

I've always had good success at the mud reefs. I think you're right; the fish channel along there. It's easy for them to ambush bait schools there as they move up the channel. I've seen pangas come right in when I've fished there and wrap those mud reefs right in front of me. Very frustrating!

    La Pinta

We used to camp at La Pinta and fish at night. Seems all I ever caught was stingrays! Was holding one very carefully removing the hook and he still managed to whip that tail and hit me right in the end of the finger. Swelled up like a bratwurst and hurt like the dickens! After that, standard...

    La Pinta

I used to think that corvina were only a cool weather fish, but they *are* at La Pinta all year long. Have caught plenty of them in August. Try fishing the mud reefs that are just to the left as you come onto the beach, rather than the oyster reefs to the north. I've tried and tried, but never...

    Who are these Guys?

Honestly? You do everything in your power to prevent both of these situations. I always know how much gas I've put in and my Yamaha Fuel Management System tells me how much I've burned at any given time. I got the chance to test how accurate the Fuel Management System is recently in San Carlos...

Interesting. It's always been my understanding that Customs in Arizona in not authorized to collect duties. I've been told this by the Customs themselves when I had an extra bottle of two or liquor. They can confiscate, or let you go, but they have no power (or mechanism) to collect duties on...
