    Snorkeling on the Sonoran Coast....

Snorkeling in Penasco is so-so at best. However, down the coast in San Carlos, I've had some wonderful snorkeling adventures. Much more life on the reefs; lots and lots of fish and critters. I've had more fun snorkeling in the tidal pools in Penasco once the sand settles out of the water. You...

The surf was GLOWING last night.

It's actually a combination of both plankton and bio-luminescence. Several years ago, I spent the night out at the 51 on a moonless night. Once I turned off the deck floodlights on the boat, my eyes adjusted and I could see perfectly in the starlight. The sea was alive with tiny critters...

Fish Story for 8 November 2014

Awwww, Melissa... ain't like we're out there cutting the fins off 'em and selling them to the Chinese like totuava bladders! In 30+ years of fishing the Sea of Cortez, I've personally taken ONE large shark. One! Have caught a few (maybe 10) much smaller models on rare occasion. Besides, they...

Table Fare Thoughts on Inshore Fish

Corvina - good. Triggers - good. Sand Bass - good if sizeable, pain to clean when tiny. Leatherjacks, guitarfish, greenback mackerel - no bueno, release. Unless you catch sierra mackerel (silver with orange spots on side). Sierra make the best ceviche in Mexico.

Fish Story for 8 November 2014

Tiburon is THE preferred fish for fish tacos! Just sayin'... yummy! Capone's makes a great fish platter. Bryan's does, too, but it's excellent fried fish, not 5 different ways. Can't go wrong with either one cooking your fresh catch after a long day on the water. It is pretty amazing how you...

    Support for Normalistas in Penasco

They protested at the Mexican Consulate here in Phoenix yesterday over this event. The Consulate was closed due to Veteran's Day. Revolutions often start with a single spark.

I'm back.... didn't know I was gone, did you? Like my brother, who I just spent time with before he passes, this thread has reached the end of its life and is now officially closed.

So, AZ-Dan... you looked pretty good in that red dress and black haired wig at the Insurance Agents Ball last month in Penasco. :p :p :p Folks, as the forum admin, I can tell you for certain that AZ-Dan and Rosie ARE NOT the same person. Where do you people even come up with that kind of...

    Stingray Landmines

Personally? I think they're around ALL the time! Have had them swimming about my feet at La Pinta in March, July or in November. More related to tide I think than season of the year. But, they may be like sharks in that regard. We've had late October trips where some reefs were loaded with...

Looking to work in PP any ideas? (serious question)

The water taxi idea, while intriguing, will only last until the first drunken gringo falls off and drowns. Plus, pangas are unwieldy to get in and out of. No dock at Sandy Beach (or the Malecon, for that matter) and if you want to go out for a nice dinner, you aren't gonna want to traipse...

I know it's not salt or local, but this is "FISHING!!".

Indeed! Here's my buddy Dennis with two Barlett flatheads. 2nd one was likely a new state record; he released it. Keep in mind Dennis is my size -- a big guy, he could barely get it up off the deck. They actually catch these on the troll. The French guy is a stitch! Nice fish on spinning gear...

The Ban Hammer is out and about. If your sole purpose for coming to this thread is to cause hate and discontent, expect to go bye-bye. If you are coming here to help solve a problem or with a valid question, no issue. But as said, new screen names that are spewing venom, "ain't nobody got time...

    Tide Calendar discrepencies

SCIENCE!!! Larry blinded me with SCIENCE!!! :D Are you talking the annually published tide calendar with the pretty pictures and all? I usually buy one every year because as said earlier, it's great for planning purposes. Where they really estimate (the coordinates of) the tidal movement, well...

    Puerto Penasco Home Port

Wow. As I've written here in the past, when will Penasco stop trying to "pet the unicorns" and concentrate on fixing/improving what is already there? The closing comment in that article pretty much says it all - "It's easy to steal 80% of a White Elephant." o_O

Russ and Naomi's Photo of the week Memorial for Braden

My god, Russ... I had no idea. My heart aches for both you and Naomi. Please accept my prayers and condolences. Braden was a wonderful young man.

Dry Heat -- bring your purse and high heels and meet me out back of Guau Guau tonight. We're gonna settle this once and for all in the true Rockypointtalk Forum way -- a bitchslapping purse fight! No sharpening your nails, that's cheating. And don't mind the film crew, either. I invited them so...

    Fish identification

Proof positive of what I said. They do work; you just need to troll 'em in an area that is reefy enough to hold fish. And for much of the close-in shoreline/shallow areas, it's all sandy bottom. Nice fish, jmcdtucson! I have a buddy that lives near Santa Barbara in Cali and I have seen him get...

I'm Back and a Few Things That I've Noticed

It's what they do on Sat. night, Joe -- cruise and booze. Calle 13 certainly isn't any better and surprisingly enough, even the Mirador gets a fair amount of drive-thru on Sat. night. Last trip we stayed at a condo near Elixir and the boom-boom of that place coupled with boom-boom of the cars...
