Heard at GG's that 75 dollar flights from Tucson will be available and soon as the project is finished. Cheaper from Phoenix.

Let's do the math....mostly smaller planes..150 on a flight....20 flights a day to fill the cruise ship with the crooked casino on it?

That would be great, but I just can't wrap my head around it... Aeromexico tried those flights from Vegas and they lasted ~ 3 months. There have also been a few charters here and there that initially looked into it, but never could get it going.

If I can ever grab a $75 ticket to RP, I'll be on the inaugural flight. In fact, I'll become a frequent flier on said airline.

When we go mainstream and we will sooner than you think we will be flying in and out of Penasco tks to the homeport http://www.elimparcial.com/EdicionEnlinea/Notas/Sonora/23032014/822729-Proyectan-conexion-Guaymas-y-Arizona.html

Ummm. Yeah, I wonder if something is just being lost in translation but yeah, turbo prop max 29 passengers and none have been built since 1997.
So a max of 90 in and 90 out a week at spec load but according to the article there are talking about 63 passengers a week?

Just as a thought, how large of a plane can the terminal handle now? And how many passengers can the terminal handle?

When you find your inner tube is floating in a big pool of cruise-doo-doo you can't say you weren't warned.... I understand a Kastmaster works well for catching trophy sized turds

An appearance from Russ in the comment section!

A few takeaways...

"An airport finished in 2008 is also expected to deliver visitors who wish to go cruising."

How does one book flights to said airport? Last I heard there is zero activity outside of general aviation.

"Holland America has said Puerto Peñasco could become a world-class tourist destination with such a port, which also creates an ideal route for the company for seven-day cruises beginning and ending there.
"

I'm sure they said that, at one point sometime in the past. Any company would love to have options. (Especially if they don't have to adhere to those pesky environmental regulations that the US imposes.) Aeromexico said the the same thing about flights to RP. Guess what happened when nobody bought the flights? See ya...

"The home port will be located at Sandy Beach in Puerto Peñasco, also known as Rocky Point, a city of about 60,000 located at the upper end of the Sea of Cortés, some 100 kilometers from the U.S. border. Known as well by some as “Arizona’s beach,” Puerto Peñasco has become a popular beach destination for visitors from Phoenix, Tuscon and Yuma. Cruise ship customers are expected to come from those markets along with California residents, for whom a new coastal highway has cut the distance by 160 kilometers."

I thought this whole project was geared as a "Cruise for Mexicans"? If cruise lines think the type of people that take cruises are going to hop in the car and make the drive through Sonoyta, then they're crazy. I think they'll drive the extra 1.5 hours to Long Beach.

Ben21- I am much more likely to take a cruise from Penasco and see the Sea of Cortez than go to Long Beach and cruise the cold Pacific.
I'm sure you are, and I am too (If I were to ever do a cruise again). Problem is most of our friends, colleges, and neighbors here in Arizona don't feel the same way.
