Lovin it in RP!
Here's a linky to my blog about a roadtrip we made the last week of December from the super dangerous city of Puerto Peñasco to the lovely beaches of Baja California. Warning, Danger, Freak attack! some of the stuff may make you want to make the trip! I hope you enjoy this respite from the danger crowd as much as I did making the trip! Life is the highway!

A few facts of the trip we drove 1790 miles, burned 470 litres of gas at a cost of 475.00 usd, spent 270 pesos on tolls for the first leg.

Baja is awesome, it is raw and it is a true adventure! We loved it totally and will do it again this year several times!

Yep great report! Russ, was the road paved all the way from Puertocitos to Gonzaga Bay? It has been a couple years but that was one of my favorite rides on the dirtbike and sad to see the pavement progress. Did you stop at Coco's corner and if so was he there?

Thread hijack....I've driven and or rode the San Diego to Cabo route many times and it is always a great fun adventure. The first time was in the summer of 1988 for a surf trip in a VW van I rebuilt in my friends backyard in Scottsdale. Unbelievably the van made it all the way to Cabo AND back (twice). Told myself never again unless I had Air Conditioning or rode the dirtbike. Pics for nostalgia.

Nice trip blog Flanders, but really, you couldn't just make a post about your trip without showing your hand about how much the latest events & our discussion have gotten under your skin? (and perhaps in the Trip Reports forum?) Someone said on the Weird thread that 35 members online was the most ever. Even double that seeing some real un-whitewashed discussion about Rocky Point isn't going to impact your business or tourism one iota. Let it go man! Everyplace has it's warts, you didn't see me going off on dry heat for bringing up the white supremacist domestic killings very near my neighborhood, even though he tried insinuating I was involved and/or related to that whacko.

I really did like your blog and Baja looks much more appealing than RP to me in many ways. It would be fun to sail or jetski there and probably more consistent wind than RP. I was surprised at the lush vegetation in some of the pictures. Cute daughter too. It would be nice if they widened that road as most people have trouble keeping an RV between the lines on our wide roads here. Reminds me of the old road to RP back in 1982.

It brings back memories of our white knuckle round trip drive to Cabo back in the day. Every time we passed an oncoming semi truck, it was so close that it sucked my 4Runner side mirror flat against the door window. You name the conditions and we encountered them, horizontal rain storms, flooding which made the road indistinguishable from the flowing side drainage, drop offs and flooding. After three days of long stretches of nothingness going down, we made it back in two days. However in retrospect we loved every minute of it.

The road is complete to Gonzaga, I did not stop at Cocos corner but what a throwback into time. I loved this trip for a lot of reasons but the company of my wife and one of my kids was special along with the scenery. Super cool. I love the pics of the VW bus! Gracias

Looks like a great trip Russ. Very cool that your wife and daughter could be a part of it. Memories when traveling with loved ones last a lifetime.

Russ, your pictures brought back my memories of my trip to Cabo. Wish you had come down. The weather is great and the beer is cold. Would have enjoyed seeing you.

Very cool, Russ! When Connie and I did the trip in '98, the longest part of the whole journey was that 75 miles from Puertocitos to Gonzaga - six hours of washboard and never knowing what was around the next corner. All part of the adventure! Glad you had so much fun!
