Bodago and sam's club can be used as small atm machines. Using 50 or 100 $ bills and requesting the change in pesos.
Beats money exchanges bank atm. I have checked the internet within hours and it is always very close to U.S/Mx. exchange rate. I build a small peso home bank for future shopping and especially Beach and property taxes.
I spend up to 2 1/2 months at a time, which relates to a fat wallet upon crossing the border.

Made this mistake yesterday....I passed by a n exchange house on my way to the ban to pay an invoice in Hermosillo. Exchange rate at Casa de cambio 12.65, the bank only gave me 12.10. I won't do that again. I did it at the bank anyway so I didn't have to wait in line again.
Russ, I'm surprised you don't use Intercam. I wish I'd found them sooner. I wait until the exchange rate is right then cash a US check for as much as I want to spare for "operating pesos". They give the best exchange rate, and around town I'm spending pesos that I bought cheap.

"they give the best exchange rate" question; compared to what? (ATM's, local bank, local exchange stores. or the current USDMXN=X (this U.S. stock symbol found on CURRENT world wide money exchange) google yahoo finance to get the current quote.

The past week the peso has been 13,05 to 13.23, and closed the week at 13.08.
These are the rates you should get when using your US credit card or when doing an ATM transaction (not counting any fees).

For those in RP now "What are the exchange rates you currently are seeing" when buying things or using the Cambio shops?

I have found it to usually be .5-.7 peso less. Here is a chart for last week.

I don't have the kind of money you do....so I don't worry too much about the exchange....lol, I have never used intercam - don't know why but never been in the building. I already have an account at Monex for large transactions but hate the idea of another stop somewhere in my day. You know I hate leaving my house, why add another stop?
