That is a nice town and El Cid is a great hotel Mazatlán Hotels | El Cid Marina Beach | Romantic Mazatlán México Resorts. One day we hooked 5 sailfish about 20 miles out. I got to fish The Billfish Classic. with Rudy Guzman (late) from Tempe and Penasco in 2006 we were running 3rd in the points division until about the last hour. That was right after we did take 3rd in the Bisbee Black and Blue in Cabo.I love Mazatlan and can't wait to go back. That's a great price.
As the local captains in Mazatlan have told me "We were Cabo before Cabo was Cabo!" And they are correct.uff:
Exactly where we stayed, El Cid Marina. I think I could live right there the rest of my life. When we were down, the Faro (right next door) was shuttered up and has been for a long time due to a "labor dispute." What a shame, the Faro is classic Mazatlan and beautiful property. I don't think it will ever reopen and if it does, it's going to need major renovation. I've caught snook right there fishing from the beach in the past.
For many years we drove to Mazatlan for 2 weeks twice a year. WE usually stayed at El Cid or once in awhile Pueblo Bonita. We go out on the party boats and go to the island to eat and shop. But alas when we could no longer drive down and feel safe we stopped going. I am still on the Mazatlan chat room and they laugh and tell me they still drive down but Los Mochios was were we stayed and that is not safe and neither is Culican.
