Well, ever since that day, simply referred to as "The Incident," Roberto isn't allowed back across that imaginary line in the desert anymore. Maybe it was the barrels of red wine. Maybe it was the Vegas showgirls that had no papers to work in Mexico. Maybe it was the "lost" Hemmingway novel being shopped to the likes of Hanks, Spielberg, Wahlberg and HBO. Maybe it was the circus tent and trapeze. Or the midgets. No one really knows for sure; details are sketchy and Roberto doesn't like to talk about it all that much. But, when you mention "The Incident" to him, there's this strange gleam in his eye and this wry, little smirk of fond memories.
