Last night DH, friends and I managed to get out of our beach clothes and got all gussied up to attend the Blanco y Negro Ball - the major charity event in Mexico. The Mayor's wife, who headed up the function, did a fantastic job. It was a great turnout, especially considering the size of Penasco. All the women looked beautiful in their formal gowns and the men all looked amazing in suits and ties (not a sight one sees very often). We were lucky enough to put some faces to names on the RP Talk as Rosie was busy making sure everyone met everyone else and insuring that we felt very welcomed.
Next year you might want to consider putting it on your calendar - not only does it help the children of Penasco but it gives you a non-tourist insight into the wonderful community that is Penasco.
If you don't speak Spanish it really doesn't matter because the band, while excellent, was a little on the loud side. But heck, you are there for the great fun of people watching, dancing, and giving to charity while enjoying yourself. My DH wasn't going to stay long - we ended up staying much longer then he anticipated and my 79 year old DH had me out on the dance floor to salsa music. He hasn't lost his dancing touch either.
