First timer to Rocky Point next week and have questions for the veterans

I'm sure many have older phones still laying around when they've upgraded over the years. ATT will give you the unlock codes for your old locked ATT phone (GSM) if your contract has expired, or you've upgraded.

If you worry about your minutes expiring just put in a tiny amount, not sure what the minimum is but I saw a woman put 20 pesos on her phone. The phones are so cheap to buy and use everyone visiting with any frequency at all ought to have one, I think. You can get calls from the states if that's an issue.

We have a Verizon iphone 4s and I can verify that it works just fine everywhere in Rocky Point, no problems. There is no cell service from just south of Sonoyta to Rocky Point and that includes national carriers like telcel. Contact Verizon and request your phone be provisioned for international roaming. It's also important to update your roaming software before you leave home each trip. Disable data roaming before you cross the border.

The park has good wifi coverage.

The Reef has a great beach and attached is a photo from a recent stay in June.

I have not been up lately but I always had Telcel service from Sonoita to Penasco. In AZ, no. I just have the cheapie phone and buy time as needed, no monthly or regular charges. There is another level of service which has coverage in AZ.

I use an AT & T Go phone. Works both in US and all the way down to RP. In Mexico, it shifts to Telcel.

.25 per minute in Mexico and .10 in U.S. to U.S. Has US phone number so kids can call cell to cell.

No Data, but text is like .50 outgoing and .20 incoming.

Thanks for the recent picture, not had much luck finding any new ones on the internet. Looking forward to my first time in Rocky Point and the beach looks perfect!

Telcel most definitely works from Sonoyta to Rocky Point, 1000%! $10 telcel card is the way to go and the minute balance carries over for 3 months.

ATT or TMobile will work driving down from the border...you'll be picking up the GSM signal from the Telcel or Movistar towers. I pick up Telcel sometimes all the way up to the entrance to the Organ Pipe center on the US side.

I only had a telcel phone for use between Sonoyta & Rocky Point and decided not to add any more minutes when we couldn't get coverage. My Verizon phone works great while we're in Rocky Point and that's really all we needed.

My Verizion is spotty. Purchased 3 years ago an at&t phone with prepaid min. and the international plan just for my trips to RP works great.

Att works great all over Sonora, unlike verizon that does not work in Bazerac and other small towns.

Hi Everyone,

First, I want to thank all of you who shared information on where to eat, where to buy fish, cell phone coverage (Verizon 4G worked fine in Rocky Point), etc. The trip down was really easy with the slight exception of the detour through Sonoyta :)

The Reef RV park was great, not crowded, sites are big and we were right on the beautiful beach! Had no issues with hookups and the staff was very nice. Had a few beers at Capones and the best steamed clams! Bought shrimp and red snapper from a vendor across from Moon, my husband grilled, YUMMY!! Ventured into town a few times, stopped in for more beers at BooBar and haggled for key chains :) Spent sometime at Wrecked, great place, good music.

The sunsets were amazing, the water was warm and I can't wait to come back.

Only negative was trash on the beach, but we took bags with us on our morning walks and picked up what we could.

ROCKY POINT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!
