OLD PORT entry and exit blocked

IMG_2650.jpgAbout 15 minutes ago the road into and out of Old Port was blocked by heavy equipment, for non payment by the city of Puerto Penasco to some contractors. Just great. They are saying, they are going to block the road for a couple hours. Good way to get paid in a hurry.

When the trucks, pulled up the drivers explained to me the city owed them for they're work, so I thought good for you. But when the cops arrived, they changed they're story and it was the main contractor (who the city did pay) that had skipped town and not paid the help and they were frustrated because the city wouldn't help them collect. Well thats different, if it had been the city, I would tell them to leave the trucks all weekend, for all I care. Anyway not the cities problem. Anyway its over now and to me that speaks well of Mexico, people allowed to protest, nobody arrested, plenty of cops, politicians and reporters all of them got along, block a major road in the states and get ready for some baton action.

And who did they hurt with their "protest"....but other workers.....and the businesses on the Malecon???

Maybe it wouldn't be allowed because the court system works MOST of the time in the states???? :stir: (digging my fox hole...)

Nothing like a little anarchy to get the blood flowing with our x-patriot friends Joe... Now if it was their vested interest's that were being jeopardized I'm sure you'd hear a different tune being sung.
If you remember Russ it was a roadblock that turned off some friends of yours to PP, anf they along with others never returned.

Reminds me of when the Fishermen blocked the main road out 8 years ago, they got their way and I got another day of eating shrimp, relaxing and drinking Pacificos on the beach. Gotto love that.

We were in Penasco also, and had to get home to Tucson, so we thought a good idea would be to take the toll "road" from Altar to Sasabe. I called us the Griswalds as in National Lampoons Mexican Vacation. There were so many vans burned out, supposedly by the drug cartels where a Coyote did not pay the bribe, and places to buy backpacks for the illegals walking to the US, along with trash on the US side once they made it. It truly was an eye opening adventure. Hopefully some day the road will be paved and safer.

Yea I was there also and enjoyed being turned around. My wife wasn't so happy. Actually it was just over 9 years ago.

Brokenwave, you must have been reading my mind. Seems like it was longer than eight years ago though, but anyway, it was interesting to say the least. We were kind of freaked out about it at first, but it turned out okay. I'm glad they resolved this issue with no major incidents.

It was 2002 or 2003 my daughter was in 1st grade, I received a call on the Monday we were supposed to be back in Phx from a Mom wondering if I was going to
bring the cookies and snacks for a class party I had signed up to do. I explained to her why we still in Mexico and her reply was "are you still going to bring the snacks?".
I still laugh about it whenever I see her.

I saw that Sat and wondered what the hell was up. My wife hasn't seen the malecon since all the work has been complete, so we rolled that way, only to see all the construction equipment blocking everything. I figured another water main went pop or something, but we immediately turned and went down along the docks to get out of there.

That's too bad Stuart because the Malecon looks great after the work they've done on it (although the seem to have narrowed the incoming traffic to one lane).

Thanks - I've seen the work in progress, but she doesn't make all the fishing trips with me, so hasn't seen the Malecon in quite some time.

By the way... anybody know what was going on late Sat. night as you head over to Sandy Beach the Calle 13 way? There is a street not too far up from the Cameltoe that was PACKED and more vehicles (all locals) backed up trying to get in. This was after the RCPM show, so it was pretty late, about 12:30 or so. We speculated that since nobody can cruise and drink on the Malecon anymore, that they just moved the show somewhere else. I know the Pacquion/Bradley fight was on Sat. night, but I'm not aware of any clubs or anything back on this street that would have been showing it and it would have been over by that time. I was kind of surprised to see such a big crowd and so late. Well, not that late in Penasco on a Sat. night. I know they go on til the sun comes up!

Might be... sorta past all the ATV rental stands and such but well before Playa Bonita. I've never been down the street myself.
