New Public Beach Construction Announced

Leased Land presented for Construction of Public Beach | JoinUs Rocky Point

Construction of a public beach is a reality that could be completed this year, as the University of Sonora has leased to the State government 20 hectares for that purpose....

This article fails to mention where exactly this proposed beach will be. I remember it being brought up prior on the forum but can't find the thread. Is it in the empty lot beside the school near the entrance of Las Conchas, just east of Miramar? OR, is it one of the empty lots next to either Las Gaviotas or Playa Bonita, southeast of the Sandy Beach resorts, across from Penasco del Sol? Seems like the lot next to Playa Bonita was part of the property owned by del Sol, which recently defaulted on its loan. Someone please set me straight on this. Thanks!

The University of Sonora DICTUS property is that now empty beach between the Mirador and La Conchas. I think the sign for U of Sonora is still there on Fremont at the road in. I believe it was the site of the long defunct desal plant from the 60's which was discussed here. More recently it housed research projects on aquaculture and horticulture of plants that grow in saline soil. The large greenhouse like structures that housed large tanks are all gone but there are several buildings still there on the beach or nearby. Near the end of Matamoros (the Mirador beachfront road) and behind the little Las Palmas II condos there on the beach you can see the remains of some of the projects, drip irrigation and some PVC pipe laying about. Towards Fremont you can still see the remains of some more of the projects, large diameter PVC that probabaly carried seawater to the growing beds. Towards Las Conchas and back from the beach there is a large dune area where the 4x4's like to play. The excavated sea bottom from the new docking area in the harbor was dumped back in that area. This is the area that I ran in terror from those nasty teenage girls that evening about 3 weeks ago. I still tremble at the thought of what might have happened if they had caught me there in that isolated area.

I should point out that the proximity of a nicely developed beach and recreation area within an easy stroll of Hacienda Nuevo Leon should only add to the attractiveness of this magnificent estate that I am offering for sale at the attractive price of $225,000 !! Far enough away and on a dead end Nuevo Leon, so protected from traffic and noise, the walled garden is an Oasis of peace and repose with a fountain, gazebo and populated with wildlife. Plus two apartments for visiting family or rental income. I'm absolutely shocked that someone from the forum has not stepped forward to take advantage of this marvelous bargain. GV, you could move from the not so Green Green Valley and live in paradise. Stuart, plenty of room for boat storage and you could use the apartments to house fishing charter folk and make some good money while living in heaven. Dry Heat you cold sell some of your condo holdings and get out from under all those HOA problems and fees. Rob, you could bring you little diva back to the place of her birth to live. Lagrimis, you could move into town and give your long suffering wife a grand and gracious kitchen in which to prepare your meals. Eduardo, a perfect locale to operate the transport business, you have wanted to move down for years. So I will hope to hear from you all !! I'm going to start packing my few megre belongings as the house comes fully furnished.

Thanks, that's where I thought it'd be. Seems to be a popular spot for the younger crowd to take photos on the beach, as I can never figure out exactly where they are from Facebook photos they post (no homes or structures in the background).

Hey, don't change the subject here, what about my house !!!

I wonder how this will be during the busy times of the year....if there are going to be any of them again. Maybe this is just thing PP needs to boost the tourism dollar.
I just don't want it to turn into a madhouse. The reason we go there is for the quiet and relaxation....no to mention how inexpensive it is. I fear that we may open the floodgates and it becomes just the opposite.
