I wonder if it's due to American gas containing 15% ethanol. Engines require considerably more ethanol than gasoline to run correctly. So, I assume the vehicle's on-board computer would richen the fuel mixture, or supply more gas to the engine because of the 15% ethanol. This would cause a reduction in gas mileage. I'm only speculating here, can a mechanic jump in and clarify?Me too, I usually get 200 miles out of a tank of American gas but get almost 240 on Mexican.
