Does anyone know anything about this place? What's the beach like in front of the condos? I saw a listing for a rental condo on VRBO.com - never even heard of this place before.

How long does it take to get out there from the turnoff to the Mayan on the highway coming in? Actually I think I may have seen this place while we were on the boat on our way to Bird Island in July. Are there even any convenience stores out there to make a beer run? That's what I hate about Las Conchas, such a pain to even run to the store if you forgot something!

Who knows what high-priced products you may find in the little tourist shop (if they have one) in the lobby of Encanto, or at the Luna Blanca tower condos next door, but I know when I used to stay at my ex's family's house in the Playa Encanto community, not far from those condos, we had to turn around or go back into town if we forgot anything. You thought leaving Las Conchas was a pain in the as$??? Yeah, you gotta make a serious list, get all Santa Claus and check it twice. Unless something was just recently put up, the closest drug stores are the ones right at the Las Conchas entrance.

Otherwise, as was said, it's beautiful out there, very remote and peaceful, and if you have children or are into collecting seashells, you'll find TONS of unique shells and sand dollars out there, way more than in Las Conchas, Mirador, Sandy Beach, etc.

It sounds tempting. I don't buy anything in tourist shops in lobbies anywhere. Normally, we stay on Sandy Beach in one of the condos - get to town, drop off our stuff, and head directly to the Corona Agencia for the cases (yes plural) of beer in front of Aka Si, make a u-turn to hit Pollo Lucas to eat and take a chicken to go, and then head directly to Super Ley to stock up on groceries for the trip - then head back to the condo. I don't mind driving back into town from Sandy Beach after dropping stuff off at the condo, but that will NOT be happening if we ever stay out as far as Encanto. Once I'm in, I'm in. We'd just pick up everything we need on the way in.

What is that all of that area (Mayan Palace, Luna Blanca, Encanto, etc.) beach called out there? North Shore? Something else?

Yikes. That's FAR. I'm still intrigued, but not sure I want to be out that far. Maybe before we actually commit a whole weekend, we'll take a drive out there first to see what it's like. We don't get around town much during the summer months because we like to spend as much time as possible on the beach. But during the fall/winter, I can see us venturing out more during the day to check out other places.

Thanks for the help!

Wow....great map. When I first started coming down to RP, back in the mid 90's, I had a friend with a house in CHOLLA, and her parents had a place at Playa San Jorge.....house right on the beach. That's when I made my mind up that some day, I wou have a place too! It may not be ON the beach, but we're damn close!!!! (Thanks Bill). Those night time breezes blowing thru the french doors, listing to the tide roll in ..... I was hooked. BUT.......once there, we didn't leave. Stopped in town before heading out......Shrimp, CASES of beer, etc. .... Heaven.

Haven't been there in years, but I figure Playa Lopez is NOW what San Jorge was then. :)

We need to talk. What kind of trailer do you guys have? I thought you had the trailer actually on the beach - it's not?

Melissa, the acutal bit of beach in front of Lori, is about 300 feet deep she is right next to this and is on a small hill. There is also nothing on the beach in front of her.

Lagrimas - I wanted to get out there with my husband this last trip but since we had to drive him home less than 12 hours after we got there to get on a flight to Mexico City we never made it. I really want to come back down for T-giving weekend and take a ride out there.

Although I am proud of the fact that I drove back down for the very first time alone on Saturday morning the 8th, to meet back up with my sister and her kids. I didn't think I'd be nervous about the drive even though so many people were horrified that I was actually going to do that, in fact, I LOVED every minute of my early morning solo drive with my iPod and coffee.

MIS.....what is there to be afraid of ????? You have a full tank of gas, you drive during daylight hours, you sing REALLY LOUD (you can do that when you're alone...LOL) and before you know it, you're there. Seriously, I am EXTREMELY stressed driving on the I-10..... Not a care in the world on the way to RP!! :)

Yep, that's us!!! Our trailer is temporary.....our plans are to build! We've got the design, we just need the TIME and MONEY! If we have a good fall/winter/spring season (work wise), I hope to be building next year. In fact, we've already got MANY of the items purchased and stored. Such as.....My French Doors!!! LOL We have sinks, furnishings, Dishes (don't laugh), we've started planting our trees and gardens. We even have the tile and fixtures for the bathroom. We need.....wire, windows, and DIRT......we're building an adobe house!

I wasn't scared at all - my family/friends were scared for me. I get a perverse pleasure out of doing stuff that I know other people will think is too dangerous for a woman alone! Go figure. I loved every minute of driving down there alone - it felt like I got down there too fast!

The things that were happening in RP seem to be over, I think they were careful not to hurt any of us anyway. Its almost like Mayberry now ( boring as hell).

It takes about 6 minutes from the highway.

I'm not laughing at the dishes - that sounds like something I would do. You're almost there on the house - sounds like it will be beautiful. Adobe is probably less expensive than concrete, and cooler also, right?
