I had to PAY a little Morbida

Well as careful as I normaly am I got taged. Came over the hill heading home and not thinking was going 77 kph in the 40. Sure enough standing by the tent there were two police officers. She had a Radar gun and shot me dead. He pulled me over and was very polite and spoke good english. Says to me, do you know how fast you were going and shows me the gun at 77. Oh well it was my own fault . He said the ticket would be $ 40.00 and I told him I had just bought diesel and didn't know if I had that much. Opened my wallet and there it was 10 1.00 bills. I suck my head in the truck window and ask Edna if she had a 20.00 and she said yes. I told him that was all there was and he took it with a smile on his face.
All my own fault and I will remember next time

Headed south from the border the speed goes from 60 Kmph to 40 to 20 to who the hell knows on the big hill to 20 to 40....what a bullshit scam....

Sure it is a scam, a well thought out one, BUT,
That is way better than the ticket I received as I came into Ajo a few weeks ago, tagged at 50 MPH at exactly where the sign says 40 MPH. That cost me $220 to go to drivers ed.
My son was caught at the small town by the 2 bridges going 60 MPH in a 25 (40KPH) cost him $44, and he didn't have to go to San Luis or wherever the unit was stationed from.
Sure it is a scam because it is usually Mordida, but the fines they charge in the USA are just a ripoff in comparison.
Viva Mexico!

The ol' Sonoita Revenue Enhancement Project strikes again. As many times as we've posted and talked about it, you'd think no one would get caught in it anymore. Guess not!

They were there last week as well. I always make sure when I'm driving that I'm doing less than 40 clicks by the time I pass that sign. Once you're past the 40 km sign, too late. They got ya.

It is marked really well and even someone w/ lousy Spanish should understand that when you exit a freeway into a town the speed is reduced. Not a scam but a desperate attempt to get the loco gringos to slow down when entering their town.

Got tagged there on my way to get some paperwork a few weeks ago, in my dads (mexicoruss) white chevy van. Wasn't paying attention and i was doing 75mph when I passed the "Bienvenidos a Sonoita" sign or whatever it is. Definitely a "DOH!" moment.

Officer was there waiting for me with his radar gun out, sure enough he got me. He said if I paid it within the next 2 days that it would be $75USD, or if I waited longer than 48 hours to pay it, it would $150USD.

He took my license, and said that it would be in the station until I paid the ticket, he said it didn't matter if i paid it that day, or in 6 months, but that until I paid it, i wouldn't get my license back.

Thank goodness a few months back I lost my wallet (thought it got stolen) and ordered a copy of my drivers license from the Arizona DMV. Just gave the officer the copy, and went no my way and had a pleasant rest of the trip.

Part true but I've seen the AZ plate get picked out of a line of cars all going 60kph in town

Actually I was so worried about running out of gas (went against my better judgement to fill up in Peñasco) that I didn't even realize how close to town I was, I just wanted to get to a gas station! hahaha.

Heading north over the hill into town is a no brainer. Pay attention and you will have no problem. Easy picking for those who don't. However, beware of the crooked cop with a fake speed locked on his radar gun. Heading south I was locked on to 40km/h with my cruise control. I was pulled over by a municipal cop on the way out of town. He was polite, and reached out to shake my hand with his right hand, then presenting his radar gun with his left hand. 68 km/h was locked on his display. I emphatically exclaimed: "NO, 40 km/h!", pointing at my speedometer. He immediately backed off and bid me on my way.

In any case, NEVER pay mordita to the cop! If you are short of cash, tell your story at the police station, not to the cop who stopped you. Another time I was stopped by a Sonoyta Municipal cop, and told that I would have to pay my fine at the police station. I agreed to go, and he turned me free. Play along with them and don't be intimidated with their game. If everyone did this, it would make it easier on all of us.
