Here is a small gallery from today. Rey and I are going to be doing tours to this place. You may have been there you may not. I have eaten oysters in many places and these were the best, it could have been the company that was with me, the perfect weather, the scenery or all of the above. The little girls worked like mules the whole time we were there and were the sweetest. The littlest girl Perla is bi lingual and will be my host guide for my groups going out there. We plan to have a tour for young folks to learn all about the cultivation of oysters in the sea of Cortes' while actually working the crates and then of course having an incredible lunch after-wards. IT WAS AWESOME.

They are amazing. Cost doesn't matter Joe. Once you get there, once you slip into the moment and hear the conversations of the workers going on around you, once you slide one of those delicious things down with the hot sauce and lime followed by a cold beer, you wont care how much. Ok Ok a dozen raw on the half shell go for 60 pesos, prepared with the salsa and cheese are 100 peso a dozen. But you have to know where this place is not just any oyster bed, this place is special because of the women that run it!

Sorry I couldn't make it Russ..... I've been to both of the "other" oyster farms....paid somewhere between $4.50 -$5 a dozen...so the price is comparable..... How far down from the entrances of the 2 farms is this place?

It is at the end of the Encanto development on the Southeast side of the Estuary

We have visited this oyster farm for around 10 years. It is a really cool place to go. The beauty of the estuary, the great people, and of course the oysters. We have eaten there, partied with the family, and just bought oysters to go. It is always a highlight of our trip when we go. Here is a picture we took back in 2004. The couple in the photo, Valantin and his wife lived there then, and worked the farm. Unfortunately, Valantin was killed in an auto accident a couple of years ago. His family is still there. RIP Valantin.

Can I take my boat into the estuary and beach it near the Oyster farm? Or is it too shallow?

I am not sure on the rules of the estuary but I will tell you that kayaks are welcome in there. We saw a few, but we did not see any motorized craft in the estuary which makes sense because they do not want any pollution in the water that may affect the food, access is very limited even by foot, it is very protected so I would say based on all that that unless you have a kayak or sail boat you probably cant take it in there. I will ask the folks there later in the week and hit you with another message if the answer is more clear.

I believe the estuary is for non-motorized water craft only. There is a sign at the entrance. I have seen sailboats and kayaks in the estuary at high tide. CEDO does kayak tours that sounds really cool.

Your Pictures on Facebook make me homesick. So I have wanted to go to this place
everytime we in RP, but never seem to have time or too many cocktails.
We are going again this Feb over Pres Day weekend. Can you provide directions and is this the right time of year? Also, can I get an ice cold beer or is it BYOB.
Thanks in advance.

This is the best time of the year since the water is cold and the daytime temps are comfortable. I don't think they have beer, so BYOB. Just go out to Playa Encanto and follow the signs. If you don't see them, take the upper road through Encanto, or the lower road along the estuary if it isn't around high tides. If you stay on the lower road, it will be about a mile on your right. There will be a sign. The oyster farm is on the edge of the Morua Estuary, between Playa La Jolla and Estuara Morua. If you get lost, ask Encanto security, they are good guys and will show you the way.

Can I make it there in my 2005 Scion tC?
Sure, the roads are very well maintained by Encanto. Just take the upper road during extreme high tide periods as the lower can flood. Be prepared to give the guards at the Encanto entrance your name and plate # as security has been tightened up and the guards take their responsibility seriously. Enjoy!

I agree with mondone. The road in to Encanto from the highway is well maintained, as well as the road through the subdivision. I would suggest staying on the upper road through Encanto, following it to and through the entrance of Playa la Jolla. Take the first right you come to which will lead back down to the lower road. Turn left and follow the road past the La Belle Vita condos for about 1/4 mile. There should be a sign on your right pointing towards the oyster farm. At this point, watch the road carefully. You should be fine...just watch for soft spots. It will be an adventure, but well worth the effort!
