Yeah, not a good thing at all. It has been a war zone for sometime; my heartfelt prayers to the family of the agent.

By the way -- I considered moving to this to the violence in Mexico thread, but guess what? It's in the US now... not Mexico. Couple this with the report in the AZ Republic this morning about the body count in Juarez. 3000. Yes, 3000 people killed in Juarez this year. Anybody that thinks it isn't a war has their head planted in their... in the sand.

Well thats why they earn the big bucks (70 K a year i hear)My guess is the guide did it and chances are he's an American (the guy that shot Krentz most likely was a San Simon native) Those guys are a real problem down by me...money/new trucks, stupid and ready to fight. The border patrol is pulling back from the border and forcing the crews to hike longer distances to get past them.Bad for me in Bowie.I feel way safer in mexico.

Other than a rehash of the event in the paper this morning, the Feds are staying pretty tight-lipped about this and how it went down. No mention of whether the perps were illegals or not, even though they have caught 4 of 5 of them. They only mentioned them as "banditos" trying to prey on either cartel drugs or other illegals being brought in. Personally, I think it's time for public executions again!

This agent's death is very much a shame. He was a genuine good guy -- former Marine, and a member of the Border Patrol Tactical Squad. If you've ever seen the show "Border Wars," the Tactical Squad is some pretty bad-ass guys... near the equivalent of the Seals in the Navy... not just typical rank and file officers. My prayers are with his family and colleagues.

I have to think as it moves. more openly, in to the USA that the government will have to take a more war like stance against the cartels. A direct open statement, THREAT, by our government against the cartells and a few Napom runs over the fields would creat some real consideration by the cartels. They are obviously a violent group of people that will only respond to a much higher level of violence to create a fear level higher than theirs. Our government has the ability to close them down if they decide to. I would have to believe some of the US covert groups would love to be turned loose down there.

Stuart...the news last night indicated the one perp who got wounded was an "illegal"....(pisses me off that the news programs keep calling them "illegal immigrants"), and he had been arrested twce in the Phoenix area since around 2006.....including for assaulting the arresting officer.....WTF????? Why was he running around loose?

The border patrol is becoming more unpredictable in the placement of their units. In this case the bandits were working an area they have been robbing other crews and Illegals without much BP heat for years and my guess is well... shit happened....legalize drugs...national ID card for working any job will have a bigger effect that 5 times the bp and military combined. This won't happen because people with money and friends in high places are used to having "their mexicans" when they need them

jerry - You are absolutely correct. Prohibition only serves to make incredible profits for those involved, fatten the pockets, and corrupt those at all levels of government. The Kennedy family built its wealth on prohibition liquor, drugs and prostitution. The only thing we learn from history is that we don't learn from history. A conservative organization recently came out with a bulletin stating that the only hope for Mexico is stability between the various drug cartels because the Mexican government is incapable of eliminating them. Make the same mistakes, you get the same results. The US government is of the belief that you solve a problem by throwing more money at it, something that has never worked.
