Another event feels the effect of bad publicity....

Rick Busa and the town of Penasco had a baseball clinic scheduled for this weekend with several former MLB players coming down for the clinic and an exhibition game iwth the local championship baseball team.

Well....guess what happened? ONE player showed up!!! The effect of the continuing bad publicity (thank you Sheriff Babeu of Pinal County!!)???

Troy Pearce showed up with his family. He did his best putting on the clinic by himself...the kids had fun and learned some skills. Kudos to both him and his family for braving the violence in Penasco to help the kids! The exhibition game had to be cancelled....

Kudos also to one of the sponsors.....Jose Flores and the BooBar...

So sad and so true. Only correction to your post, Joe, is that thanks should still go out to all the sponsors and those who did what they could to help put this even together. Your hard work as our photographer was duly noted and much appreciated!

Rosy....agree....I realize I only pointed out Jose....but there were several others involved....most of whom I didn't know. When I originally posted, I was angered and disappointed by the entire situation!

Whatever were all the reasons for the rest of the players not showing up.....there was a lot of work by several people in organizing the event, and there was money involved in all of the sponsorships.....many people were let down.....particularly the kids! Although the clinic did come off, it could have been a much better event. I guess nowadays, a committment to do something is not worth much....and not notifying the organizers shows a complete lack of manners....responsibility....or whatever else you want to call it!

Jose deserves the special mention because (just like Joe at JJ's Cantina in Cholla Bay and Manny at the Tequila Factory), he is always quick to be the first to sign on, especially where kids are involved. Despite being pretty sure that I'll forget someone, let me at least list here for you guys, the list of sponsors (the ones I can think of off the top of my head) so you'll know who the Good Guys are in Penasco!
