There are several small boats, smaller than a Panga with very small engines, that I've watched working off the Mirador Beach. They fished close in. Wondering if anyone can fill in some details. All I know is what I can see so I make some guesses about how they fish.
I've watched what looks like two different methods. One the fisher trails out what looks like a net woven of fine line with a round probably float attached all along one edge of he net. This guy seemed to make a large slow circle while feeding out the net. Then he anchored the boat at one point and appeared to be waiting. I left the beach before he hauled in and left so I don't know what he did but I'm wondering. Were the fish caught by closing in the net so that he had a 'basket' of fish at the end or was it a net that the fish gets caught in by the gills?
The other little boat first appeared to be emulating the first guy, then it appeared that he was meandering around sort of aimlessly. furthermore I could not see a net going into the water, but they were doing something and it looked like a line. Is this a mini version of the long liner?
Anyone got any ideas ?? The Pelicans were working the area hard last night, lots of feeding going on.
