Those were incredible pictures Russ- thanks so much for sharing. What boat did you go out on, and why are you going to Baja, when you can see them in your back yard! JK

Lovin it in RP!
The trip to Baja is so much more than whales although they are the main pull, we visit the wine country, the deserts of Cataviña and of course the whales in Guerero Negro, but then down to San Ignacio for a day trip, then coming back to cross over the backbone of the baja from the Pacific ocean to the Sea of Cortes with an overnight in magical Gonzaga bay. Then back home through the agricultural fields south of Mexicali and San Luis. It is a fantastic trip. Oh plus....these whales in Peñasco don't get close enough to touch like they do in Guerrero Negro

I was on a panga 2 years ago about 3 miles south of Sandy beach, and I could have touched the tail of a humpback, but I thought it might snap my arm off. Unless you're right there, you don't realize how truly huge they are.

Someone asked in another post, "who is Jerry? "

My answer would be, he's the guy who sometimes posts interesting and informative information, but most often he is the guy who is the protagonist of every positive story posted on the site.

You post something about sunshine, Jerry posts something about rain, storm clouds and darkness.

You post something about happiness, Jerry posts something about sadness .

You post something about abundance, Jerry posts something about scarcity.

You post something about beauty, Jerry posts something about ugliness.

I think that is the best description of "who is Jerry. "

Whales trump negativity every single time. There are sightings of dozens together as of Feb 2 2016. There are whale watching trips by at least 3 different companies everyday. This is 100% positive.

When people get to see whales for the first time in their life, it raises awareness in them. This awareness may cause some to find ways to donate to conservation efforts where in the past they didn't know much about the problem. The outfitter I use in Guerrero Negro does a 45 minute educational interactive talk before we go out to the lagoons. They always speak of the danger these animals are in. They talk about through their efforts on the Baja California coast have helped to bring the numbers back up to over 2700 whales up from 1000 10 years ago in that 1 lagoon (Ojo del liebre).

This education process is an important one as it steers peoples thinking in the long haul.

Part of the fee I pay my outfitter goes into the conservancy fund in Guerrero Negro, it is much greater than a 1000 one time shot. Multiply that by the number of outfitters up and down the coast in GN as well as San Ignacio and Bahia Concepcion and you have real money doing real things. Just my group this time is 16 people who will have this incredibly eye opening experience.

Stop being so smug it is not an attractive trait.

Good on you but all these efforts are meaningless if the oceans acidity keep increasing.we need to think big.
