I buy the large which are pretty big. 4lb box will be about $44. You have to defrost them all at once or put a portion of them in room temperature water and break them off the block as they defrost. Then put the rest back in the freezer. It's a hassle, but there are only two of us so we can't eat 4lbs unless we are having a party. Very clean, all the same size.

How many pieces do you usually get in the 4lb box?
I went to Sea Products for the first time last week and bought a 2kg box of U12 Blue. That is 4.4lbs. There were 56 shrimp in the box. I am no expert, but my theory is that U12 means 12 per pound. True? If true 4.4 pounds should be about 53 shrimp...so 56 is about right.

There will be 7 of us over a 4 day period. Should be able to devour 50+ shrimp. I can't wait

I love the place. No hassle, no bullshit. Tell them what you want, they get it and ring it up.
They accept and have change in both currencies and will take cards.
If you get stuff to take home, have a cooler with NO ice. The frozen stuff is at -10 degrees and ice is warmer than their products. After 5 hours in transit we get back to town and they are still frosted.

Sure, just bag chunks or float them in cold water. Never use warm.

I usually buy from 3 brothers at the market. I do know that the season ended in April and I have bought from them exclusively off season for the last 8-10 years. Never had bad product.

Maybe, maybe not. Unless you buy from a panga guy you'll never know for sure. At Sea Products you don't have to be concerned about when they were caught because they know how to package them and how to freeze them to maintain the freshness.

I bought some shrimp from 3Bouys on the Malecon ("downtown" area)today...the left-most stall when facing the water from the street. The scale said 5lbs (2.27 kg). $640MXP, or about $40USD. these were the biggest size shrimp they had, and there were 51 shrimp in the 5lbs...so if the scale was accurate then they were U10s. Anyway, they were AWESOME! By comparison, we stopped at Sea Products and they were selling the 2Kg box of U12s for $45USD. Anybody know of better deals?
Did you check the scales with a bottle of water or specifically ask for "the real scale" at 3Boys? If not, then you probably did not get 5lbs. And at $8/lb, its doubtful you didi either. When I buy there, I always check the scale with a bottle of water at which point the other scale comes out and the price goes up $1/lb.
They know I'm willing to pay a real price for real weight and I won't give them up when they are selling to others .... but for shrimp, Sea Products is still the way to go.
Well, I assumed the scale might be rigged a little. How much do you think it is off? You indicate the price for the other scale goes up by $1...so maybe 12%. Is the scale likely off by more than 12%?

If they were U12's you got about 4 lbs. Still a good buy for $40. Personally I still prefer to buy from Sea Products because I trust their scale and I know the shrimp are good. I don't play the crooked scale game and don't trust the freshness when buying from a cooler, especially in the hot months. But that's just me...
