We have never been down over Christmas, wondering what to expect? Will anything be open in RP Christmas Eve and Day.... i.e. BooBar, Restaurants?

Probably not much open. Historically Christmas Day is a family day, with Christmas Even more important. Mary's on the Malecon has been a 365 restaurant and probably will be open. I'll check around and let you know.

A really fun thing to do on Christmas Day is to go to JJ's in Cholla and help passing out gifts to the kids. Then follow one of the trailers into the neighborhoods and help out more. The number of people who line up at the trailers is huge. That's what it should be all about. I have not made it in a couple of years. I hope they still do it.

That sounds a whole lot better than sitting in the condo watching dvd's! Who organizes it? I think we would be able to bring a bunch of canned and dry foods, I'm sure that would help the people in the neighborhoods just not sure how it all works.

It has been the owners of JJ's who lead the pack. John someoneoranother. I used to give them a cash donation. There was an article in the RP Times asking for donations a bit ago. There is a large building next to the bar that they used during the year to store stuff and repair bicycles. I used to just show up Christmas day in the morning. They work all year to prepare and the gifts were packaged in age and sex categories for quick hand out. They have a party at the bar for Cholla kids and give away, or did, many bicycles and hot dogs, then head out to the neighborhoods. I'd just show up fairly early and see what's happening. There is always lots to do to help out. If it's not happening you can take a nice walk on the beach ! I think I'll go again this year.

The other owner of JJ's is Jose Anacleto..... "John" is the other "J" in JJ's, and is/was the owner of Baja Cantina/Hotel....if you check jj's cantina on FB or their webpage (www.jjscantina.com) you should be able to find a phone number and check to see if the toy drive is still active. I believe it was sponsored by the "old Boys Fishing Club" (or some name like that) out of Cholla. The toys used to be stored in the building to the right of the bar. I didn't see anything on the website calendar of events on the toy drive/giveaway.

If you go to JJ's you will usually find Jose there....very nice/personable gentleman.

I think they stopped doing that...i remember it from a few years ago, but heard either last year or year before they stopped, but check with Joe at JJ's....best bet...
