Use of mexican diesel fuel in 08 truck

We have been told that we should not use Mexican Diesel Fuel in our 08 Dodge truck. Because of the blue tec fuel system The dealership has told us many horror stories about mexican fuel and how it will ruin your fuel syetem and is very expensive to fix. Does anyone use mexican diesel on a regular basis on a truck newer than 07? Any good or bad experiences? We love coming to visit but this new truck has been such a pain with the fuel situation. In the past we have always used regular gas and never had any problems and also saved ourselves alot of money!! Thanks for all your help.

I have a 2004 F250 and buy as much fuel as I can in RP, I have never had a problem, last time I saved $1.00 a gallon.

I do the same on my 2006 Dodge diesel...get as much as I can in Mexico.....I believe Dodge switched over the ultra low sulfur fuel requirement in the 2007's.....it may be available in some parts of Mexico, but not in Penasco or Sonoyta....

there are a couple of Dodge Diesel Forums out there...post your question on there...I recall there were several mechanics that frequent one of them.

I don't recall which one of those I had checked a few years ago.....

Yes it was in 2007 that dodge switched to the low sulfur fuel. So we were wondering if anyone with a 2007 or newer truck(that requires the low sulfer fuel) has used mexico diesel in their truck? and with what results? Thank you rockyptjoe I will look in to the dodge forums you posted.

I had seen the stories about not using the mexican fuel for the newer vehicles...about gumming up stuff, etc....but my understanding is that old fuel (higher sulfur) has better lubricating properties????

Bill...when the new diesels came out and I was researching the topic...there was something that I read that indicated that Mexico had another designation for the ultra low sulfur diesel.....the "name" on the pumps/stations....and I haven't seen that on any of the pumps in Penasco (or Sonoyta)

Expedition Vehicles Fuel Choices|ULSD|Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel | Global Expedition Vehicles

Here is some interesting reading about low vs high sulfur diesel fuels. From what I have found in this article & several others, I think the answer to your question is, don't use fuels that aren't ULSD in late model diesels. The issue is complex, and different for each vehicle. Nobody seems to have a clearcut answer or solution and I question if they ever will. The risk definitely outweighs the benefits. The savings of $1.00/gal is meaningless if any type of damage is created. This reminds me of the leaded vs unleaded gasoline discussions years ago when unleaded gas first came out, and we all know what happened with that. I assume sometime soon the high sulfur fuels will go away just like leaded gas did.
