First, a big thanks to Roberto for taking the time to let me pick his brains for a while Tuesday. Also to MexicoRuss. I'll get into why later.
Also, a big thanks to the people and founders of this forum. We just returned from our first trip down since joining in and went with a whole new attitude, thanks to you all. I didn't try to sneak in a lot of food, with the exception of our Jalapeno Bubba Burgers and went mostly native.
It started Tuesday afternoon when I tried to get into the beach house with the key provided by my company. It didn't work, so while the others sweltered in the heat I headed to Oceano to get a spare key. Even though it was a gazzilion degrees my family managed to find the wine, some cups and head to the patio. I thought they were sweltering. Riiiight.
Later I met with Roberto and then headed to TelCel to get a broadband stick. I arrived at 2:45 and got back to the house with working stick in hand just short of five. The line was at least 45 to 50 minutes. Once with the clerk, I was lucky enough to get one very fluent in English and he was extremely helpfull, including loading the device. His computer was extremely slow and I suggested he use my laptop. He actually laughed. There is no phone or method of communication at the beach house and the family is sort of large so that's why I need to stay connected. Playa, one of these days I'll let go of the "Leach".
Tuesday night at Dolphin and it was good, service was good and no one got sick.
Wednesday, (Don't worry we left Friday) As per the suggestions of many I went shopping for meat and veggies and birthday cake. Stopped at Las Palmas and left quickly. Their air was off, no meat and it smelled like the fish had all died there. Went to Santa Fe and was very pleased. That's when the fun started. I at the suggestion of Russ, drove around town trying to find his suggested meat market.
This lead to me chrashing that stupid light way up next to the street sign on the main drag and getting stopped by Puerto Penasco's finest. He was about 12 years old and took my license and said follow me. I ended up at the main police station and was escorted in by three of their finest. There was a crowd of reporters and TV people there and I said, "is that for me? I only crashed a light." No smiles:roll: After a 10 minute chat and a $55.00 US fine, I walked out a free man. The guy who took the money walked me to the door shook my hand and said he lived on Miracle Mile in Tucson. I said wonderful.
I returned to Twin Dolphins to find Roberto and get more explicit directions. Of course our friend Rip Van Roberto was still not in because it was before noon. Just as well because the lovely lady holding fort gave me great directions and after passing the place three times I found it. It was worth the aggravation. The butcher who spoke great English cut me six of the most beautiful Boneless Rib Eyes you have ever seen. And thanks to my superb grilling they were as good as or better than any I have had stateside. Those and our fabulous cowboy potatoes made a great dinner.
Thursday was uneventful thank God. Went to dinner at Don Julios and it was great. Great service and the food was outstanding. Not too expensive either. We all had different things but I liked the Shrimp Surprise the best. The cranberry based sauce was excellent.
Left Friday with a greater appreciation of Rocky Point and also this forum. Going back in November and can't wait. I apologize for the length of this diatribe, but I just wanted to share.
