Tax office story as experienced by Russ

Lovin it in RP!
So just a little interesting trivia of life in Mexico. This morning I went with Naomi to the Tax office to help her pay her small business taxes for the next 6 months. We decided to go early to beat the crowds, you know how busy federal offices can get. I was also going to renew my registration on my cars which is done at the same place but I thought I didnt want to take that much time. So I left all my paperwork at home. Well we get to the Federal building at 8:05 The young man helping my wife was bi-lingual and we have known him for a while. I told him I was too lazy to bring my car papers but I knew they needed to be renewed. He asked for my license and pulled up the registrations, he said my drivers license would expire next week so he renewed it as well. So what we thought was going to be a horrible ordeal turned out to be awesome. These people were friendly, smiling, joking in 2 languages and extremely efficient. We registered 2 cars, paid business taxes and renewed my drivers license and we were out of there in 20 minutes tops. We had enough time left over to eat breakfast at Aladinos restaurant which was also just awesome. I love it here!

When I went in to pay our property taxes in January it was a breeze - although a fairly long line it went smoothly. No English by the clerk and my Spanish extremely limited (hard to teach an old dog new tricks no matter what they say) - but he knew exactly what I needed so no 'talk' necessary - he just swiped my card and I was out of there.

I think some times we are intimated by the language barrier and afraid to try things - then find out it wasn't a problem after all. I've found out that if the person(s) I'm dealing with don't speak English they seem more then willing to find someone that does or we end up doing a wonderful game of charades - either way DH and I end up having a wonderful time and meeting some fantastic people along the way.

No lines and quick service butI was surprised by my 2012 Property taxes.
For 15 years they have been $80-120 for a Cholla Bay property.
This year they were $230. Had to go back to the bank and get more Pesos.
I AZ I would be protesting the assessment with a 140% increase
That amount is a small price to enjoy being here.
I hope they use it to fix some of the roads and build another malecon/beach area like I have read about.
There is a ton of new road construction going here and in the states. I'm hoping that it is a sign the economy
is going to improve here and in the USA

Brokenwave, that happened to all of us in Miramar. Turns out, they made a mistake, and reduced the taxes. You may look into that.
