Strong ties to Sonora a boon

There is an interesting book called "Yankee Capitalists and the People of Sonora". Sonora has historically had closer ties to Arizona than to central Mexico. For example, in early days there was a railroad into Arizona and only a cart track going south to the trade center of Sonora, Guaymas. People flocked to Sonora from all over the world to extract minerals and still do. Most of the goods and supplies for the miners came in on the railroad as did the ore go out. Canadians seem to be taking over mining here. The economic impact of early mining in Mexico was much greater in Arizona than Mexico.

Lovin it in RP!
I think if this current system goes on you will see that Arizona will prosper because of its ties to Sonora. If the politicians have their way it will be later rather than sooner I am afraid.
