Sonora, Penasco, Quartzsite, commonality?

So there are about a zillion motorhomes in Southern California and Arizona right now. There is a lot of activity going on the the normally little town of Quartzsite with several big RV shows - Gem Shows - Car Shows going on.

One of the events called the Big Tent Event which has been ongoing by Kenny King for the last 30 years is under way. The State of Sonora Tourism has a booth at the event. How do you man a booth for a 10 day show?

It was so cool to get a request from Hermosillo to travel to Quartzsite on behalf of the State of Sonora. So Naomi and I have been here since Monday morning and are having a blast explaining the State of Sonora and specifically the town of Penasco to the Throngs" yes I said Throngs of people coming through the tent. We have several commits to a travel plan this month, we have groups coming down for the Taste of Penasco from here. It has been a great show and the mood towards Mexico is once again in positive territory. It was not 2 years ago when we were here. It is a great show this time though. It should be a good year in our little town in Northern Mexico!

picture a large expanse of modern rv parks,the old ones that were knocked down for fantom condo projects reborn and the rvers,airstreamers and 5th wheelers filling the place...

In reality there are probably 2 or 3 of the closed RV parks in the Mirador that could, with not a huge effort, be brought into service rather quickly. Senorial and Playa Elegante come to mind as both are relatively unmolested. At this moment Play de Oro has a pretty good crowd. RVs are what built Penasco and may be the best hope for revival. That and of course all the high end luxury condos !!! NOT. Hey maybe some of the condo projects can be revived as multi level RV parks !!!

So this is Thursday of the show and it is absolutely incredible how many people walk by and see the Rocky point and Mexico literature and they stop and tell us how much they miss coming down.......Naomi in her sweet voice asks "why dont you come anymore?" she already knows the answer but they tell her, well a friend told me that blah bla blah blah happened and so it is not safe and Naomi says "well maybe they are exaggerating he says "no, he tells the truth but it didnt really happen to him anyway he said it happened to his friend and his friend never lies so it must be true so I am scared" then she says "we are Americans and we live there and we know whats going on so I am here to tell you the truth first hand from things that happen to me" they end up coming back in a little while with their wife and collecting info on a room booking or an rv spot. The show this year is a home run in our book and we still have a few days to go. We are so totally happy we came up here! It is an eye opener and Javier from the OCV is just doing a great job!

Human nature to expand a story then spread rumors and mistruths. The news media feeds off of this behavior. Look at the story about the Norte Dame football player and his imaginary girl friend that died. The news is still hyping it, for more than a week now. It should have only been a 3 sentence blurb in the "Strange stories of the day". But now he is on some TV shows like he is important and this is normal, he should be seeing a therapist. Off my Soap Box.
