Our son-in-law just made the trip down this afternoon. He said that a van in front of him got the red light and they were opening all the doors and checking inside. Then it was his turn - red light and alarm going off. He rolled down his windows, answered a few questions and was sent on his way.
Per our instructions he made sure not to speed - and got pulled over. Cop showed the radar gun at 60 Ks - SIL said that the sign said 60 K and that was obviously what he was doing. Cop said if that were correct no ticket so they went back to see the sign - and it was 60 K (of course the cop had to know that). He wished SIL a good safe trip and sent him on his way.
Only thing that SIL could think was that he was driving a new model black car with tinted windows - a man driving alone without much in his car.
Other then the extra time he didn't feel threatened at all and policeman was polite (also spoke English).
SIL did everything correctly - he wasn't speeding - knew where the signs were - didn't try to "pay" a fine - smiled and was polite and explained the speed he was driving (he had switched his car to Kilometers rather then miles so no guess work).
Said he wasn't going to mention the incident when he got back home - that the way rumors went he would have been hauled off to a Mexican jail - his car taken, etc. This was his second trip down and first by himself in black car. First time was in a van with obvious family.
Has anyone else had this happen in that stretch after crossing the border.
