I'm ready to go on this (Sorry for the old post, but hopefully it will happen):

Projected tourist route by train in Sonora

Hermosillo, Sonora, December 5, 2010 .- Every train ready for the "Sierra Madre Express" to begin operations with a tour of our state that includes diverse landscapes and microclimates in its passage through the entity, in the coming weeks.

In this new stage of the Sierra Madre Express, Sonora is intended to have its own train and its own path as in Sinaloa boasts "Chepe" train or in Jalisco "Tequila".

The General Coordinator of the Commission for Tourism Development in the State (COFETUR), Javier Tapia Camou, explained that this represents the reactivation of a major tourism product with a potential market in Arizona, California and New Mexico.

The profile of these visitors fit the profile of high-level tourist seeking a unique experience or want to relive memories of a travel form that represents the combination of comfort, romance and love for the old and living at the point of arrival with the inhabitants of each place.

For his part, Elias Antonio Proto, Director General of Tourism Development, said that this train has a little experience over 27 years serving domestic and foreign tourism from Scotland, Germany, Canada and the United States mainly in the course Nogales is made to the Copper Canyon of First Class. This machine would make a tour of the railroad tracks that are found throughout Sonora, through scenic places as Magdalena, Puerto Penasco, Hermosillo, Splice, Navojoa and Cananea, for which we design a scheme that allows overnight a few nights in the villages so that tourists appreciate our state and its greatness in all its dimensions.

The General Manager of International Relations of the Sierra Madre Express, Alejandro Moreno, reported that recently was recognized as one of the best passenger trains in the world by National Geographic, compared to machines like the Royal Scotsman, Royal Canadian Pacific and the Golden Chariot.

The Sierra Madre Express is a train with seven cars dating from the 50's and 60 fully restored, with original furnishings and accessories and luxury services ranging from air conditioning, heating, 2 dining rooms, 4 bars, double bedroom suites and a wagon that can enjoy the outdoors a few points.

For 27 years, the Sierra Madre Express 860 has made continuous trips to Copper Canyon, mobilizing just over 22 thousand passengers, an experience that is to move to Sonora.

This sounds too good to be true. Wonder if it will be anything like the Pacific Coast line that disappeared in the early 1990s. If they're going for upscale tourists, they will need to do a lot of work on security.
