Shark Fin Soup...on the way out!

Geesh... you can buy artificial crab meat... I've even seen artficial shrimp made from fish parts... you'd think that someone could make artificial shark fins...

Maybe someone can start to recycle old sharkskin cowboy boots and sell that product to the Japanese and Chineese so they can keep their traditions alive... I'm not trying to be disrepectful to the Japanese and Chineese it's just that from what I've seen they need to dry the shark fins out before they are used for the soup...

When we first moved down here an old fishing buddy who has passed on had given me a tail from a thresher shark... this thing was about 3 1/2 to 4 foot long and all dried out... my greyhounds used it as a chew toy (I think they always pee'd on it too) then my neighbor "Jose" saw it and begged for it so he could make fin soup from it... I was more than happy to let him take it...

Next you 'll be suggesting fake Rino Horn, Bat wing and Tiger teeth.

Sometimes I am ashamed I am Chinese.

Fake will never work...what you fail to understand is Shark Fin soup is not about taste. In fact, shark fin taste like nothing. Chinese love Shark Fin soup because it a status symbol thing. Chinese are very big on appearences and nothing show friends and family that you are successful then serving/ordering Shark Fin soup. A fake or imitation shark fin will never be able to replace that.

In Rocky Point you will find it on the menu as Sopa De Aleta at a couple Chinese restaurants for around $70.00 pesos, its crappy here. At the C-Fu Gourmet restaurant in Chandler it used to be about $80.00 dllrs a bowl. In Mexicali, there are probably 50 restaurants that serve Sopa De Aleta.
