Road Hazards in Penasco

If you are coming down soon be very careful on the streets. There are places that the pavement has sunk deeply. Calle 13 at the Oxxo, and Matamoros in the Mirador are two. If there is a large pool of water, enter carefully as these sinkholes are sometime concealed therein. The typical markings on these holes are some rebar stuck in the hole and maybe a piece of non reflective plastic tape and not very helpful. Some huge soft spots have also appeared on some of th unpaved side street. Hopefully the water in the streets has receeded, it was about 18 in deep on Benito Juarez at Calle 13 on Sunday !!

I hope they patch the road into the Malecon soon !!

I was wondering about the Malecon, and if the flood damaged any work that was partially finished. Looks like Cholla Bay got hit pretty hard.

Any street unpaved and with a slope was probably damaged. I was told there are some rough places going into Las Conchas as well.

As far as the Malecon road repair, they won't have to haul as much water to compact the surface before paving anyway.

Some of the holes in the paved roads are deep enough that should your jeep drop in a wheel, you will probably not get out without help, you will be down on the frame !! There are two monster holes int eh pavment on Sinaloa near Fremont right now. There was the tail light of a Jeep sticking out of one !!

Lovin it in RP!
Coming back home last night from Arizona we could not believe how much it rained. Driving on Samuel Ocaña was a bit tricky with the sink holes and all. It will take some time to clean this up. To think I almost cancelled my golf game in Northern AZ where it did not rain (was supposed to) to find out it poured here instead....whodathunkit?

Hey guys, how are the roads on the way south of the border now, and in town? headed down tomorrow evening, don't want to run into a huge hole at night.

Sorry, but I have not heard anything. GV Jack of the forum arrived after the rain and I have visited with him. We talked about the streets in town being rough and he commented on hitting a pothole in town on Josefa but said nothing about problems on the highway. I think he would have said something about the highway if it was bad.

The highway into town has been in very good conditon but be cautious at night, there is roaming livestock occasionally.

Roberto...we went to Maria Bonita for breakfast this AM and the road up by the Dolphin is tricky to say the least. Particularly on the down side.
There is a rather large deep slit that will be hard to see at night. There are some detours getting around above the old port but other than the Dolphin
situation they were rough but not real bad. Keep in mind that I'm from Cleveland where a pot hole is a POT HOLE.

By the way had the Torta Maria for breakfast. Huge and the bread/bun was outstanding. Will do it aagin.

Hey Jack, The original inquiry was for the highway between Sonoita and Penasco. How was that road on your trip down??

The highway from Penasco to Sonoyta was clear, but on Sunday the Caborca highway had water where the Sonoyta River flows (I'm sure it's clear now). They're predicting rain on Sunday/Monday so we'll see how the roads look.

I made a quick up and back for necessities and had no problems whatsoever. Green on the way in and a friendly wave on the way past.
