Ric,matt and myself ran down last weekend to do a little fishing. even thoe bouy weather advised against it. good thing we went anyway. the seas were great and only got better through out the day. We had no problem making bait close to shore. loaded up with green backs rockbass and even stuarts bait of choice bonefish!!!!!!!!!!!! we then ran to the 18 mile reef and started off with a nice pinto. as the day went on the afternoon bite was pretty steady we ended up with 8 pintos rangeing from 12 to 30 lbs. and also caught 4 leopard groupers. and it seemed like we could not really get the gulfs to bite. we lost 6 fish due to being pulled in the rocks. the last bite of the day was on a huge rock bass and it got nailed in seconds of hitting the bottom and there was no stopping the fish from going in its hole. we did use some 8 oz. diamond jigs and had 4 good bites and lost every jig. Man does that hurt the pocket book. we had a great time and decided to head in at about 7:eek:o and thats when the wind picked up. had a bit of a wet run back but at least it was a following sea.

I'd take a bunch of toad pintos over the gulf grouper anyday! Amazing that the water was flat. As said, it blew like crazy up here.

Awesome. That pinto on the pink scampi is a pig.

Glad you guys could get some good drifts- we were down the prior weekend and the drift was so fast we could not hold bottom if it was 120 feet or deeper.

We really had a great time, it is always nice to fish on the boat of another captain who fishes as hard as I like to, and works just as hard at making sure the boat is always over productive areas to fish. Cant wait to get on the water with Doug again.

That is not a pink scampi in the pinto. That is actually an awsome fish gripper that Doug and Scott use on the boat. They are plastic and very lightweight but very strong. I have used them to pick up fish over 40 lbs and I know Doug has used them to pick up fish bigger than that.
