Radiation allert

You are all going to get a kick out of this one. A few weeks ago Edna had a Cancerous Thyroide removed. About 8 days later she took a Radioactive Iodine pill to kill any cancer that may have been missed. Last weekend we went down as usual, spent our few days and came back. When we went through the border they pulled us over to the check area. And then they continued to pull every other care over. When there were 8 other cars pulled over I saw a guard with what looked like a Giger counter. I rolled down the window and yelled at him and ask if they had had a radiation allert and he said yes. With that I pointed to Edna and said here she is. He grined and came right over checked her and started to laugh. He filled out some papers still grinning and we and all of the others were on our way. Sure glad she had a Dr.s card about the radiation.
I had thought the big yellow collumns were X Ray but they are for Radiation and sure are sensitive.
Going back this next weekend and will set it off again. At least this time I can allert the guard in the shack.

Bill,
You should try crossing at night and light off a couple of green glow sticks in the car before crossing. I would bring the video camera. It would be priceless.

Bill,
we had the same thing happen coming back a couple years ago - Michele had a stress test the week before we went down - they pulled us off to the right between more yellow posts - hand wanded the entire outside of the rv - Then finally asked has anyone had a medical procedure recently. When Michele stepped out of the rv, the hand scanner went CRAZY! took about 30 min or so.....

These are all cases of coming back into US.......or entering Mexico?
I wonder what they are scanning for? Smuggling nukes out of mexico? HAHA
Radioactive Avacodo.......

We were pulled aside as well once. agent in a lead apron and a geiger counter cautiously approaching and askin medical questions. Turned out to be my dads old compass from the 40's with the luminous dial I had in some camping gear. apparently it was putting out about 3 x what they detect for and they were concerned. I don't carry it anymore....

Same thing happened to my exwife a few years ago, going into the US.
The 20ish year old border patrol at the gate flipped out when the alarm went off. He yelled for me to turn off the car, put my hands on the hood, etc.
Finally an older, more seasoned looking border patrol came over and asked me if we had any dental or chemo recently, and then sent us over to secondary inspection for a hand wand test.
We didn't have any paperwork with us, but the hand wand test clearly showed it was in her head area, not in the car, so off we went.
It was a bit scary at first, as it was at least 3 weeks from her last treatment and we had forgotten that the alarms might go off.
