So basically, they got shut down because someone was drinking in the casino. Yeah, the big international casino that was planned for Rocky Point will do REAL well, won't it? Isn't the point of casinos to get people to drink so that they spend more money? Las Vegas, please take note - YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!!
Eh, makes no real nevermind to me. I liked the Black Dog much better WITHOUT the casino and stopped going there shortly after they put the casino in.

Same here Stuart....never much of a fan before.....I guess they weren't pulling in enough from the "old fart" retirees during happy hour....:stir:

There has always been a lot of 'street talk' about the casinos. Some have maintained that they are all illegal. The owner at the Black Perro maintained she had the only legal permit to operate. Others have said that the 777 across from Hacienda Las Fuentes is the only legal one since they have a paper given to the family immediately after the revolution granting them rights to gambling. The other out near the stadium, had a grand opening with the local politicals participating ballyhooing 'all profits go to the city'. All in all probably best if they are closed. Periodic observations of license plates in the parking lots indicated the money was virtually all local so it did not appear to be a tourist draw. The lady who makes her living washing windows at the 8/12 seemed to go to the Black Dog every day.

There a few of those licenses that were granted long ago floating around. They are available for sale or joint venture, but as you can imagine, they're very expensive. As far as I can determine, no new licenses are being issued (yet). Local casinos are a huge draw for local people of modest means. I saw the same 8/12 lady at the Lucky Point once (I was there to take pics, as I'm not a gambler). I think the casinos will find a way to open back up, that somehow the government will begin to issue licenses and regulate gambling.
