Passport answer finally

Lovin it in RP!
On my way back from Phoenix yesterday I had the opportunity to ask the question about whether or not the US Border Patrol could deny entry into Mexico if you didnt have a passport. The question came up somewhere on this forum because Rocky Point is a drive to destination. It is common knowledge that you cannot get on a plane or a cruiser boat without a passport, so the question came up does that apply to us. The answer I got when I sent a letter to CPB was "Mexico does not require a passport when coming into the country" which was not the answer to the question. So I got it straight from CPB yesterday that NO they cannot deny you leaving the USA without a passport when driving or walking in. FYI

CPB can only deny you entry to Mexico if you answer "Yes, I have 2000 rounds of 7.62 ammo and 45 grand in cash... and a DOZEN HAMS IN MY COOLER!!!!"

Actually, I don't think they can can deny you on the cash part because you declared it, but probably need some stupid form or something. Definite jailtime for the hams.

I've always been tempted to say that, but don't want my tonsils being tickled from the inside by the long arm of the law!! Bad enough they make me xray the boat in both directions now. Good grief! When it gets cancer, I'm suing Homeland Security!!!

Friends always ask me the same thing, so one slow traffic weekend last January or so, I asked the border patrols at the secondary stop before Why heading north, if a passport is required, and they told us yes, it is required but no American can be refused entry into the USA, they just may be delayed, fingerprinted, etc proving their citizenship.

I had a friend with me last month, she forgot her passport, and they seemed to look her up in the computer in the booth using her Drivers License. They did ask her if she HAD a passport which she did, but not with her.
They simply said, please remember it next time.. Off we went, 2 minute total stop.

A few months ago, my son and his friend came down, and the friend had no passport at all, they asked him if he HAD one, he said no. Again, they checked his Drivers License, told him to get one asap, and off they went.

No extra delays in either case.
