Does anyone remember the Old Playa Hermosa Hotel? Have wonderful memories of it as well as Hector's Cantina which was part of it - and the fantastic beach - laying on rubber rafts and drinking Bloody Marys or sipping on a cold Corona. Ah, those were the days ....

When was it Hectors? I remember it as Las Burbujas. We camped in their primitive campground right across the street when I was a teenager. Showers were a garden hose in thru a window in a concrete shed. The stairway to the beach...... The sunsets where it looked like a pathway to the sun on the water.....I stayed in the motel a few times.... You know the building is still standing. I drove over there last year and parked and remembered.......I danced and danced and danced and partied in there. I can still remember Rinconcito en el Cielo and Juana La Cubana....Oh, the cumbias.....Tequila Sunrises..... Oh, the Memories!

It was Hector's from at least the sixties into early 70's. Miguel and Chewy were the bartenders and Hector owned it (think he rented the space from the owners of the Playa Hermosa) - sometime during that period Hector also opened a bar in the Old Port. In the summer we would take a dip, put on a shift to sort of create our own cooling system and dance a lot. I learned the Twist and La Bamba at Hector's. It was the only bar I was allowed to go to as I was "chaperoned" there (we sort of aquired family so what was ok for tourist in those days wasn't ok for Mexican families). It also wasn't "proper" for me to wear shorts or pants into town. When the first bikini showed up on the beach most of the town came to take a look :) Do you remember the steps leading down to the beach? Do you remember the old water trucks lumbering into the hotel area? My kids used to get under them to take a fresh water shower (as they all leaked) rather then the salt water bath.

We started going down to Penasco in 1948 - needless to say sooooo many changes. What time did you start coming down?

Looks like Kenny's gonna have to give up his title as grandpa. Gato, I came down the first time in 1966, when I was 9. I posted about the stairway above. I do remember....

One time a few of the guys, after partying all day, decided to ride their dune buggies up and down the stairs. There was a VERY proper German gentleman who was visiting, and being highly disapproving of everything and everyone until Uncle Roberto provided him with his first Maragarita. He then started mellowing out, so much so that he decided he would play traffic cop at the top of the stairs. Only problem was that he didn't want to get his clothes messed so folded them (all) neatly on the top of the wall! Being a smart gal, I had gone to bed long before and only heard about it in the morning - I can sleep through just about anything.
