Wild thought but with today's judicial system, it might be possible to sue the car company because they made a lethal weapon and put in the hands of a drunk. Firearm companies get sued all the time for "wrongful death" so maybe it is time to start suing car companies for the same.

I was in downtown Phoenix a couple of years ago...had just parked my vehicle on the street....and a guy getting into his car asked me to breathe into his interlock.....so the vehicle would start....I declined!!!
When I was down and out in Albuquerque some years ago, and down by the courthouse; this guy came up to me and said he'd give me $20 to pee in a bottle for him.
Joe it was "down by the court house', and it all meant he was going in for a drug test that he couldn't pass. Get it?
