Mirador Nights

Weekend nights are hoppin in the Mirador. Just not is the historically typical way. Saturday night saw the streets jammed with slow moving traffic and cars parked on both sides of the street adjacent to the Ice Box or old burger joint. The beach across the street was covered with cars and people as well. Most car trunks and rear hatches were opened and people gathered there in small groups. Although a couple of new joints have recently opened along the street, the crowd did not extend far. Pinkys at the Pink Cadillac draws a modest group and D Hooters usually has a few vehicles in the lot, but overall the streets are empty. Playa de Oro has had a pretty consistent clientel, more recently than earlier but plenty of room for more RV's.

Maybe people have moved driving from Old Port to the Mirador. We were in Old Port last weekend, and although the road by the Malecon is fine, all the other roads are ripped up and you have to go a circuitous route to get to the restaurants/stores not along the Malecon. The construction crew was working late Saturday evening- around 7:00 so hopefully this will be over soon. I feel sorry for the stores which are impacted-short of walking through piles of rubble, it's hard to get to some restaurants- but they were very grateful we were there.

What are the new joints, where are they (or what was the name of the business that used to occupy the building?) and do you remember the names?

Things have really been picking up speed since we arrived 3 weeks ago...Playa De Oro is almost at capacity. Tomorrow, 60 odd units more arriving. Having to wait in lineups at the grocery stores, stores at the Malecon picking up speed, more crowded than a week ago. Found three bakeries, all good, eaten my years worth of sweets. Went to karokee at the American Legion on Friday night, packed. The bars like Pink Cadillac, Manny's not fairing well...hopefully spring break will help them out. When you wake up in the morning it's a good day. Smile.
