Mi Familia prices

Last weekend we started to go to Mi Familia to try it out (6 of us) - the place was empty (Mare Blu had diners) - one look at the menu and we decided to go else where. The prices appeared to be higher then Arizona prices!

Most people we asked about Mi Familia had commented, "I hear the food is good but way too expensive for me." Which is what we will now be saying.

Ended up at La Curva - it was busy - people having a great time - food was great.

What does everyone else think about Mi Familia's prices?

Seems like all of them are getting higher - although I could get my taco for only 25 pesos rather then paying 70+ pesos for more then I wanted.

sounds like "Mi Familia" will not have an anniversary party.

I have said it many times that Rocky point needs to market to Rocky Point citizens first and then the volume will follow. But time and time again these smart entrepreneurs think selling 25 beers $3.50 to gringos is better than selling 250 beers at $1.25. Restaurants need to turn food or it becomes stale. Volume!!!! And high prices destroys volume. Economics are back-wards in PP. Low volume? so make it up in higher prices????
Ive said this so many times on this forum is getting redundant. IMO it all comes down to education. We learn and understand how supply and demand work to create an equalibrium price. Ive said this so many times its ridiculous. Its the same for everything in RP, FAKE watches, purses, jewelery and its all FAKE. The business owners in RP dont understand moving inventory to bring in new product. Ive told the story at least once on this forum of the guy in the Malecon that wanted $100 for this FAKE WATCH and he wouldnt budge. I offered $50 which is insane because I can get a nice brand named REAL watch here in PHX for $50 but nonetheless I wanted this watch. Not only would the guy not take $50, he wouldnt budge off of $100. I tried telling the guy that REAL watches in the states were cheaper and I told him at that price nobody would buy that watch. Long story short, i didnt oblige the greedy bastard and the watch was still there for at least 6 months and then I stopped going by to see it. Its pry still there for all I know or the guy is out of business is pry the more reasonable assumption. That guy could have been moving product for $30 or $40 a pop and putting new product on the shelves, nope! I dont know where y'all live but here in Phoenix we have the sports bar chain ZIPPS. Now this is a perfect business model. Young woman servers, Monday through Friday Happy Hour food deals and booze deals, then 7 days a week in addition to the Happy Hour, starting at 8pm to close Zipps has more deals on food and beverage. The daily 8pm to close promotes certain brands on that selected day. So for example, I used to go on Thursday nights a lot because they have a faccacia that I like and they have whatever flavor 3 OLIVES VODKA WHICH IS TOP SHELF FOR $3! Point is, everyday of the week there is some kind of deal. The real point is, doesnt matter what day you go to ZIPPS its going to be PACKED. EVERYDAY like CLOCKWORK. They have a great product and they know how to draw people in, and this is in NORTH SCOTTSDALE so if good prices can still be found in SCOTTSDALE the people in RP ARE SOOOO DUMB REALLY REALLY DUMB

MexiJoe, we had a similar experience involving some jewelry on the malecon a few months back... we bargained with the minion and then just said take us to the jefe. we went to him, but doubt it was the owner. He leads us over to the scale etc etc and refuses to budge. We were prepared to walk away and did just that. Moments later, parked in a far away place, the minion appears out of nowhere and offers the price $5 above what we wanted to pay. It was best to refuse, and we did. The kid then lowers the price to our original amount. We told him no again, then drove off.

It seems that there is more the notion that there is more than the blanco/brownie economy pricing. Now is elite blanco too, eh?
Good post above. We agree!

In response to Mr PHX, yea I know exactly what you mean. First of all I tried my hardest to locate real silver in RP and I dont believe it exists, secondly because Im obviously more educated than a donkey I can know what silver is trading for per once, break that down into grams and you can have a rough idea when the guy pulls out the scale. The best is even then you are paying market value for silver for FAKE SILVER hahaha. On TOP of that the SCALE IS WEIGHTED haha I mean its such a joke! To comment on your second post, yes ZIPPS is amazing and my boo is definitely thursday night, foccacias for like 6.50 BUFFALO CHICKEN IS MY BOO with a 3 OLIVES GRAPE with or without SPRITE SOME TIMES I JUST GO ROCKS IF IM FEELING NICE for $3.

NoW aS FoR DIANEC, we use proper spelling and grammar around here ya dig? I dont even know what that means or what you're attempting to say. Im sure you had more time on your hands, enough to write more than 13 words right?

Hi all:)

My SO and I had dinner last night at Mi Familia, and it was unlike the usual Mexican food found in other restaurants, in a good way. It seems that the food style is D.F (Mexico City). We had the Pollo Temazcal, Chicken breast with cactus pads and chilorio (sauce made of 7-8 herbs and chilis), over a red chili marinade, and the Filete Don Julio (filet, crown of roasted nopal, house potatoes (good but not as good as everything else), with a creamy chocolate sauce served on the side. 13.95 and 17.95 respectably. We had a bottle of Chilean Concha y Toro Cab Sav at $32, and a few vodkas, and a sort of Neapolitan ice cream scoop enough for two people. We had an excellent fresh avocado and green salad with their House Vinagarette as well before the entrees.

Our tab was $84 for dinner. We really enjoyed dinner, but missed listening to Antonio, their entertainer, whom we had liked once before when we went for appetizers last month. He plays only on Fridays and Saturdays.

Our service was excellent, and it was nice to be able to take a break on their balcony to take in the sea air.

I'd give the dinner a 5, but because Antonio wasn't playing, I 'll give it 4 and a half stars;)

We went to Mare Blu last night for dinner (excellent as usual), and the owner (who also owns MiFamilia) said hello, and showed me the new menu for Mi Familia ( lower priced), with Nachos, Shrimp Cocktail, and lots of items between $5-$10. I'm sure the food will still be great, but we'll miss the items that we had a couple of days ago. They're no longer on the menu:(

I have to say this: the owner is incredibly quick to respond to market forces...

Kudos to he and his staff for such fast implementation. All is not lost if we'd like to have the same entrees as before. He did mention that with a day or two notice, he would ask his chef to prepare them for us. I'm glad we have a copy of the original menu;)

Peace...

Pricing on good food in Rocky Point

Emilios (sp) in Sonoran Sun has good food and always has, but now its 1/2 price what is was. I thought their bar prices were high, and not sure that has gotten any better.
But the food prices have and the food is very good.

La Familia is still pricey based on our last visit, Sunday.
