Malecon Streets

When I was in town of couple of weeks ago I was driving out of the Malecon and admired how good the streets turned out. Everything is smooth and clean now with sidewalks and it looks amazing. For obvious reasons I criticize a lot of the projects in Rocky Point and this one was no exception. It took forever and it's still not completely done, however it does look good and they did a good job. Now if we can just get some more asphalt down on some of the other roads in town...

Now, if they will go back in time and remember what carried the town before the condo boom, middle class families, (looking for inexpensive rooms and food) trailer parks and people that camped out, they might have something. There is some truth in the saying "BUILD FOR THE RICH AND EAT WITH THE POOR--OR--BUILD FOR THE POOR AND EAT WITH THE RICH. The trailer parks were a huge part of the economy of Rocky Point.

We recently had friends down who hadn't been back since the beginning of the work on the Malecon and they were terribly impressed with what had been accomplished. The other couple had done a lot of cruising and they thought our Malecon rated up there with some of the best. they liked that it was contained in a short walking area - enjoyed the benches for sitting and relaxing while watching the sea and the people. They were also impressed that they weren't besieged with vendors and the ones that did approach backed off immediately when told 'no' thank you. I think when it is all completed it will be something that Penasco can be very proud of and we can all enjoy. This goes for the Public Beach and, hopefully, for the home cruise port area.

we were there in July of 2010 and it was a mess down there and I think they either had a water line break or it was the very beginning of the street project.
So now we were just there over Pres Day weekend. What a great site. It is so nice to have parking where they do. Street is a bit narrow, but its always been a one-way anyhow. Things are really shaping up.
