I drove down through this area about 8 years ago. From Torreon to Matzatlan. The road from El Salto to Concordia was like the Swiss Alps. Just like the photo. You could see the switchbacks going down the mountain. We drove it at night too !! The logging trucks run at night because they have to use both lanes to pass the switchbacks. At night they watch for oncoming headlights to avoid head on collisions and I think the locals stay off the road then. All down the mountain, blap blap blap or jake brakes. First one I got stuck behind put on the turn signal at one point and Mariana said, pass him. I said are you nuts, l can't see at all. She said just pass them when the turn signal goes on, so I did. An act of raw faith I hooked the little rental car into the blackness and passed the truck loaded with large long logs headed down the mountain. The first rush was incredible but after passing a large number of trucks I started feeling like Sterling Moss racing !! Blap, blap, blap, blap, blink blink blink hook the little compact into the darkness, jam down the gas pedal, over and over, what a rush. After dark there were no views but earlier the scenery was some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Near the end I was runing very low on fuel, the last Pemex was in El Salto and there was a group of gentlement gathered around the pump that made me nervous. I thought for sure I would find another and I did but at the bottom of the mountain in Concordia several hours later ! We stopped at houses down the mountain and were able to buy a few liters from residents. I was wishing I was driving my 59 Triumph TR3 on that trip !! Might do it again when I hit the road.

Then don't ever ever ride a bus between Sonoyta and Tiajuana. He was going so fast that when he went around the curves thru the Rumorosa mountains you could see sparks from where the outside tire rims were scraping on the pavement. I was crying I was so scared and the driver just laughed......And it was night!
