Is $75/person a good rate for charter fishing?

Hi all,
I'm heading down to Puerto Penasco in August to go fishing and I'm shopping around for a charter fishing boat. There are 6 of us in the group. I've gotten two quotes so far:

  1. $75/person for a 40' boat which goes out about 10-12 miles.
  2. $50/person for a 20' boat which goes out 2-3 miles.
Any suggestions which option I should go with? Is it worth the extra money to go out farther? Will we catch more or bigger fish?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

yes, it's worth it to go out 10-12 miles in my opinion. 2-3 miles offshore averages 50-75 feet deep. 10-12 miles and you can hit 120-175 feet depths.

$75 per person seems reasonable to me...

Charter Boats

Make sure youmget a capable crew, unless you want to catch triggers and sandbass try the About Time they know where to go and have a nice boat, dont know whAT they charge, but catching fish is more fun that going for a boat ride in August:-o

Wishamako is right. There are too many charters that only catch triggers. About time will put you on good quality fish .

$75 a person is cheap. I don't charter per se, but when I take friends etc. out, it's $200 a head. Then again, I go out 50 miles or more and gas ain't cheap these days. It's a full 8-10 hour fishing day on my boat.

Agree- for 6 people plus crew, go with a bigger boat.

I'll also jump on the About Time bandwagon... Great, well equipped boat, and a very skilled crew.

6 people, indeed. Bigger is better. I only ever take four, max. You put 6 on a small boat and everybody is stepping all over each other, lines are constantly tangled, just one big PITA for all. It's as much about enjoying yourself and having a good time as it is about catching fish.
