Does anyone know what/when events are planned for Independence Day? Last time out noticed the flags being put up on the streets - looked really nice.

Have kids coming in and I'm sure they would enjoy going to some of the celebrations.

Guessing there will be a lot of fireworks.

I don't know the exact time, but last year, we learned the festivities are on 9/15 right at city hall, and start around 9:00 but the Grito occurred about 10:30 pm on 9/15. It was fun screaming "Viva!" after the mayor said "Viva Mexico!". Last year it was really hot, so we left after that (because we had been there since about 7:00). Most people started showing up at 9:00 and the entire street/streets were blocked off starting at the Circle K on Benito Juarez, south of City Hall, and Fremont was closed for a few blocks east of city hall. I wished we would have stayed for the fireworks!

:mexico::mexico:Yes it was hot last year. Learn from the Mexicans, bring a small towel to soak up the sweat and a bottle of water to replace it. I think about 9 is a good time to get there, unless it's cool this year. Park where you can, off Fremont probably easiest, and walk in. There will be lots of vendors, food and drinks and you can buy a flag! Be prepared to stand elbow to elbow as the crowd gets huge right in front of the Municipal, the place to be. The fireworks are exciting, right at ground level, whirlygigs and all. Be alert!! It's a real Mexican celebration, everyone has a great time.:mexico::mexico:

Thanks for the info. I've been reading up on it (forgot just about everything I knew). One paper I read, written in 1847, said that Hidalgo got really irriated when they came and cut down and burnt his vineyard and that was when he got into plotting. They should have known better then to ever get between a man and his wine! Apparently Spain would not allow Mexico to have vineyards as they wanted them to buy their wine from Spain. Hidalgo was also supposed to have brought in silk worms. He thought Mexico should have their own industries.
