Health certificates for dogs

Jerry called his vet yesterday to ask about certificates and was told they are 25 dollars and only good for a month. I verified that with my friend who is a vet tech. Has anyone ever been asked for this or is a rabies vaccination papers and up to date tags sufficient?

Yes, last week when we came down with our 2 "lap dogs"- Doberman/DoberPit, they asked for our papers (even though though they had tags). We didn't have the rabies papers, so the Mexican agent (who was not the regular Border agent) said we couldn't come into Mexico. My husband kept talking to him, and he agreed to let them come in but only if we bring the papers next time. So we have copies of the shot records in the car. This is the first time this has happened since coming to Mexico twice a month for over 14 years.

So he just wanted shot records, not certificates of heath?

Right, he asked specifically for the shot records. I thought that was funny because probably 3/4 of the dogs in Penasco don't have records. But then I remembered the discussion about Parvo, so possibly that was when they were looking for.

They've only asked for our pets' papers once (we've crossed with them 7 or 8 times). We gave them the shot records and health certificate and they were happy. But we only get the health certificate once per year when they go for their check-ups. I believe the health certificate at that time was probably 4 or 5 months old.

Also our vets provide interstate (I think) vs international. They said that Mexico doesn't require the international version (which is more expensive).

Got the green light today so no questions / no problems!! It's good to be back!

Ive looked into the international certificate also for my two dogs. I was quoted $60 per dog for 10 days. So I just bring their shot records.

Any time we are red lighted they alway ask for papers for the dog. We dont have health cerrtificates but they always accept the rabies and shot records.

I'm not sure why, but the agents always seem to quickly back away from my truck muttering "chupacabra" something or other in Spanish when they see Precious sitting on my lap and Gus in the back seat.

I heard Gus saved your grandfathers life by pulling him from a burning house and when you were telling that story someone asked if Gus had lost his leg because of an injury or burns from the fire..? and you replied... "Nah... You just can't eat a dog that good all at once"

We got the red light April 27 @ 9PM. Had 4 dogs, 3 labs and a 9 week old dobie. The agent asked if I had papers for the dogs in fluent english. I replied yes. I searched thru my center console and came up with an old certificate of health for 2 dogs that was 10 months old. He took one look at it and said "thank you, have a good evening". I don't believe he could read it. He never even looked at anything in the back of the truck (coolers with meat, and 50 lbs of dog food). I guess I was Blessed as usual!

Yes my wife always takes our 4 dogs and dog food down with her. Sometimes they question the 4 dogs but so far have havent sent her home.
