The port, west of Yuma is Algodones, not recommended...It is about 40 miles of crappy roads from Algodones to Mexicali, unless you go south to the freeway, but working your way thru Mexicali when you exit the freeway, will make you wish you had'nt gone that way. What part of Mexicali and for how long, makes a difference, because there are 2 ports now. There is a port now before you get to Calexico from Yuma on the Mexicali side it is called La Garrita Nueva and would be the best to get to the business/hotel zone.......the other is as LJ mentioned in the town of Calexico, which would put you in the downtown district...At La garrita Nueva, there is never a line to get into Mexico, but the line out can be huge, and its worse at the other one. If its a day trip, do yourself a huge favor and park in one of the secured lots in Calexico, walk across (about 10 minutes) grab a taxi and go, he will get you to your meeting in no time. Mexicali is a mess to drive in.I need to go to Mexicali in a few weeks for business. From what I gather, there's a border crossing just passed Yuma. Anybody ever made this trip? Does it take forever to cross back like in San Luis?
From what I could tell on the map, it looks like the new east border crossing is where we need to go because after that its a straight shot down to where the hotel is. We have to be there overnight, so I need to drive across. The Calexico crossing is too far west and seems like it will be busier. Your hotel is probably on Blvd. Justo Sierra and it will be a sraight shot from the new port and You're probably staying at Ariza or Lucerna, there are some great restaurants in the area. Fabis house when I met her, was near La Lucerna.....From what I could tell on the map, it looks like the new east border crossing is where we need to go because after that its a straight shot down to where the hotel is. Thats an easy drive, (15 minutes) Melissa.......no roundabouts, no potholes and best of all very little traffic. Just keep hugging the border fence, to Justo Sierra, make a left and Araiza will be a little ways down on your right......Don't forget they are an hour behind us on the clock. From what I could tell on the map, it looks like the new east border crossing is where we need to go because after that its a straight shot down to where the hotel is.
