I thought that there was going to be a full page, as this one is, by the Deprt. of Tourism from the State of Sonora instead of a HOA condo owners, or is this a separete publication?

Instead of sounding like a selling article by the State of Sonora, the intent was to show how fellow american's who either reside in penasco or visit penasco feel regarding their safety in penasco and their frustration with coverage regarding the safety of visiting penasco. If it was an article from the state of sonora, it may have not carried the same weight.

I saw the article in the paper. Read it word for word. Had some valid points; had some of the same arguments we've had here. But, my bottom-line take on it after reading it? It sounded like a bunch of whining from a group of people heavily invested in the condo market that are losing money because rentals are down due to the issue of "safety."

Sorry, not busting on you "coopers" at all. The signatures and names of each of the presidents of the various HOAs did nothing to impress me, only reinforce my initial thought that they were whining on behalf of their homeowners. The "testimonials" didn't carry much weight with me, either -- kind of like the forum here itself. You'll have those that say it's safe and they will continue to go even if they lined Calle 13 with tourist heads on sharp sticks. And you have those that say they're done, finished, ka-put until the drug violence in Mexico (not just Penasco) is more under control.

Not trying to start a shitstorm with anybody; just the way I see it.

Good job on the article!

I know multiple families that have read the article and it has changed their perception of Rocky Point. Likewise they've spoken about "The great times they've had and possibly planning another vacation to Rocky Point."

BTW, as everyone knows, it costs nothing to post on the forum. So, even though we say the same on this forum, the article appears to carry more credibility, and certainly reached a larger populace. Everyone I spoke to has commented on the costs to for a full page ad, hence there must be some truth to the ad. Obviously they not considering the monetary reason behind the article.

Personally I've heard a change in the perception of the safety of Rocky Point.
And, that's good for Rocky Point.

Lovin it in RP!
I think the ad was spot on. I think if the Sonora Department of Tourism would have done something it would appear to be just a propaganda war. Having testimonials from mostly Americans who yes, some have a business interest as I do tell there side of the story is important. The letters that were posted are by mainly travelers to Mexico with no business interest. That carries a lot of weight with me. I thought the piece was well thought out and not sensationalized as to discredit itself as a fluff piece. It cost a fortune to run those ads so it was not about ego either, a lot of ego had to be swallowed to make this happen. Yes Don there is a bending of perception going on right now about Penasco, in my opinion in the right way. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the way Rocky Point has pushed back against the propaganda of the US warning, and thats OK. We can not just sit still and watch the train wreck so Penasco has decided enough is enough. I thinks its all good.

A border patrol guy (based in Texas & apparently once in the Tucson area) advised our Granddaughter not to come to Rocky Point as it was so close to Tucson that it was dangerous! He advised her to check out a map so she could see how close they were. I guess he is looking for job security - the more people are afraid the more the government will keep supplying border agents.

We told her that no one could guarantee her safety anyplace - not even in her own home (one can fall in the bathroom) - that you can take your kids to the park and have a guy on drugs go crazy - or go to the grocery store on a Saturday morning and run into a crazy person. That if you live your life in fear of what "could" happen you miss out on a lot of wonderful things. That yes, you take precautions - you act wisely - just as you would do at any time. But life is to be enjoyed - not much fun if you are always afraid.

As of this morning they are still coming :)

Hopefully other people will start to question the source of the "fear" stories and use some common sense.

Personally I liked the ad and have heard positive comments about it. We dont own a condo, we dont rent out our house, we dont plan on selling so the property value up or down doesn't matter and as a Vietnam vet and ex cop I understand that there is a certain amount of risk wherever you travel or even wherever you live. If I felt that the risk was too high I wouldnt go but up to this point I dont feel it is as high as what one finds in many large American cities and it is certainly not higher than what I am willing to take. If that changes I'll stay home but untill then I will continue to enjoy the friendly people and town of Puerto Penasco. I love the time I spend there. Blaine
